You're right, the NHL schedule maker led the NHL in goals this season.

^ Points you mean, not goals. He may have won the Rocket Richard once, but even playing in the Southeast he wouldn't be on the same level as Ovechkin/Stamkos in scoring. He finished 4th in the team in goals this season (five behind #3). He would probably win the points race every year (when healthy), just not goal scoring.

More or less. Ovechkin put up half of his goals against his division. Against the rest of the teams that weren't AHL calibre and trying to grab that first overall his numbers were a bit worse than Tavares hovering around that 0.50 goals-per-game.

Ovechkin, especially when he's playing well, is great, don't get me wrong. But it's not exactly the biggest surprise that the Rocket Richard winner came from the team that got to play the 4 very worst defensive teams in the East the most.

Although to your point I would argue Markov was better than Subban this season, and was more of a reason for Montreal's success.
Anyone who watched a lot of Habs games would not argue that Markov was better than Subban this year.

Subban has really developped into a complete defenceman for Montreal, and is much better 5 on 5 than Markov. Markov's knee injuries are limiting him and he does not have the same mobility or endurance that he used to have. He really fell apart when Emelin went down.

Subban carried Montreal for long stretches this year and was often the best player on the ice from either side (and yes that includes his defensive play as well).
