I hope he doesn't bounce around to a lot of teams.
Hopefully Pittsburgh or Calgary.

Never meant just the Iggy factor but when your GM gives you one of the best goal scorers on the PP the last 10 years it might be a good idea to use him.
Ultimately Bylsma's inability to get his team to adjust will be his downfall, 2 years in a row his coaching was figured out by other teams and he did nothing.

Does Iginla sign with the Desert Dogs and play with his buddy Doan, ride off into the Arizona sunset together?

I guessed Ottawa in a previous "where does Iggy sign" thread.
Playoff team despite injuries to multiple key players.
Solid young core.
Canadian market.
Majority of team returning, especially the key guys.
Lots of cap space.

Maybe LA. It's clear Pittsburgh is not comfortable with him. In fact, he's not even signed and the Penguins fans are already showing him the door.

I don't think he was completely comfortable playing in the Eastern Conference...

I've no clue where Iggy will go, mostly because I honestly don't know what his game is about right now.
- He didn't exactly flow with the Pens, and I think it's a fair argument as to whether or not he can keep up with their top 2 lines. If we expect that he'll get a contract between 4-5ish a year, does Pittsburgh do that for a 2nd/3rd liner? I think not.
- Does he grind enough for LA? I really don't feel that he does at this stage. With us he had the occasional game in beast mode, but I'm not convinced that he can commit to the Kings type of play day in and day out. Darryl may sign him out of loyalty / nostalgia, but if I was a Kings fan I'd be hoping they stay away unless it is a short duration and a relative bargain.
- Someone brought up Detroit. I say no way. I don't think Iginla fits the Wings style of play, and they're probably happy promoting youngsters.
- Chicago: no.
- Boston: no.
Tough call all around in my opinion. I agree with those thinking Kings but if Kings management has learned from Darryl's time in Calgary, perhaps they'll be sensitive to him trying to bring in more veterans and end up re-playing what he did here.
What would be interesting is if he signs with a younger playoff team in hopes of providing 2-3 years of leadership and a crack at the Cup. From my perspective, Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal would represent interesting choices for him.

I'll be shocked if he ends up in Los Angeles.
Does any team with Cup aspirations waste a roster spot, let alone cap space, on Iginla when their last pro scouting report on him is playing 4th line minutes for a team without tremendous depth on the wings, playing 11 minutes in the final game of a sweep?
He was skating away from invitations and scrums. Essentially, he plays the complete opposite game style the Kings play. The idea was that his offense would be his saving grace, but it turned out that he was a black hole for offense with the team's best players.
Pie in the sky to think any of Boston, Pittsburgh, Chicago and LA will pick him up unless he takes a steep, steep pay cut. Boston especially, they just got a good look at what he brings to the table at this point. The Kings will move Bernier to get scoring help, Chicago is more than comfortable on the wing. As for Pittsburgh...they got a good look at what he brings, too.
Dallas maybe? The Jets?
My bet is if they can afford it, Vancouver.

Waste a roster spot on him?
He was top 10 in play-off scoring this year.
The Kings used Fatty Penner and Kyle Clifford on their second line. The Hawks have Bryan "9 goals, 23 points" on their second line.
If scouts are making their assessment on a guy based on the last game he played then they likely aren't working for a contending team.

So it would have been better if he took stupid penalties to put his team down a man? That is what would have helped the Pens out in the Boston series?

They also got a good look what Letang, Crosby and Malkin bring so I guess those bums are out as well?

Rangers and Capitals are the two teams where he would fit (depending on the Rangers' new coach)

He scored .75 ppg this season. Fatty Penner didn't come close to matching that as the Kings 2nd line winger playing with Carter and Richards this season. The Kings have been using Toffoli and Clifford on the 2nd line this last series and you think they can't us Iginla on the 2nd line?
Superstar Bryan Bickell put up the same stats in 49 games that Iginla put up in 31 in Calgary and this guy is going to get upwards of 4 million and be the star of FA?
Iginla will get decent money and get a top 6 role likely on a play-off bound team. He may not be the stud to carry a team anymore but he is still a very good top 6 player.
|
And definitely much more of a top 6 player than frickin Matt Cooke!

It's not Iggy's fault if Bylsma can't figure out how to beat the Bruins with their double coverage on Crosby. The Pens have so much depth and tools and yet the guy didn't know how to use all the tools he's got and that's why the Pens got swept. Matt Cooke on second line and Iggy on 4th line - go figure! And they got beat by another team that played them hard last year that didn't even make the playoffs this year.

Iginla just did not step up and protect Crosby.
If he wanted to be a top guy with the Pens and make a difference he would have grabbed Marchand after any one of the times he hit Crosby and made it painful for him to continue to do the same.
He had no fire... The Bruins did not respect him and he never elevated his game.
Crosby was basically begging for some linemates like Lucic and Horton.... Iginla did not volunteer it even for a short time.
