AV will coach the Habs (or Nordiques) sooner or later.

Louis Jean@LouisJean_TVA5m

Told Darryl Williams and Rolie Melanson are safe for now. Will be up to new head coach to decide if they will be retained. #Canucks

Not that it matters if the NHL comes calling, but they removed the interim tag off Sutter's title in Red Deer for next season.

thats it

the media here has brought up a ton that no coach who has won a cup in his first 5 years as a coach has ever won a cup with that team, guessing the hope is that the message wears thin

Awesome news.

Canucks get rid of a pretty decent coach, yet keep their turd of a GM.

I would have fired Gillis and probably kept AV, especially when they flame out again next year and then they're going to fire Gillis anyways. Then again I cannot wait to see how badly Gillis gets fleeced in any potential moves until his dismissal.

Yes because the 2013 season was so awesome. I'll never forget the good times of Kipper getting the hook nightly as the team left their goaltenders out to dry. The team being so bad that they held their first ever deadline fire sale. Blake Comeau getting a regular top 6 role. Finishing 3rd last in goals against was great as well. Good times.

Yep those Sutter years of 90+ points every season sure were pure torture.

I just love it that my team might have had a small part in making this happen :-)

Renaud Lavoie@RenLavoieRDS18s
Alain Vigneault knew since a few days that he was not coming back. Why the Canucks did not say a word is a total mystery. #RDS

The Canucks really are starting to follow the Flames path. In 2 years, they'll fire the new coach as well, blaming him for a lack of playoff success, all while retaining their core. Then they'll fire the new new coach in another 2 years, as they miss the playoffs with the same core and wonder what 30+ year old UFA's they can sign to fix the problem.

Ray Ferraro and John Garrett like to think they are hockey guru's they should be hired to ensure the train wreck.

I'm pretty sure he's referring to the pain of missing the playoffs by one or two spots and finishing too high to get an impact player in the draft.

Hire John Garrett, Gerald Valk, Ray Ferraro and replace Gillis with Doug Mclean!!!

DO IT !!!!!

Man, that would be a dream. Excluding Ferraro, I maybe able to watch Sportsnet again if that happened!

Pretty sure he's taking a shot at Brent.

Last year was just a vindication for Brent. He got the most out of a core group that was never going anywhere. He was right in that they should have rebuilt. The core group in Vancouver is what needs to be changed as well.

Those screaming for a new coach for the Flames were wrong. What needed changing was the core. Whether Sutter was the right coach for the rebuild could be debated but he was never the main problem.

Thank goodness they finally saw the light and got on with it. Looks like it's going to take the Canucks a few more years to realize it needs done there.

Given the length of time there, far different from the B Sutter situation. Just like D Sutter in SJ getting tuned out, so has AV after a 7 year run.

As said before, imo a far more relevant coach in today's style of NHL then the Flames' current situation...it's a shame it looks like the radical direction change on the ice isn't carrying over off the ice as well. Now's the time to start clean and promote stability for the next 5+ years and a guy like AV would be a good option in that regard.

AV should jet over to the KHL they would appreciate his brand of limp diving hockey.
