People have laughed me off thinking this sentiment is riduculous, like its never happened before. Like 150 years actually means something in the grand scheme of things. Great societies and Empires have fallen and been destroyed from the outside and inside for our entire history, but most people in our day and age seem to think we as humans are beyond those types of failures. But we're not. And its not that they're even failures. Sometimes kings have to fall for the better of everyone.

It won't happen, I can't see it happening.
America used to be based around the concept of compromise to get things done and they were lead by a lot of strong leaders that were willing to compromise and change to get things done, but in this day and age of super-politisization (not a word but shut up) of every issue, where the point is to score political points instead of solving issues your seeing that sharp divide between the left and right.
And its not just a Republic issue its a democrat issue as well.
And its been a long time coming and it flows from the President to Congress and Senate to the state level to the individual level.
America used to be able to build powerful leaders who despite personal failings always were able to transcend and listen and solve issues.
Maybe its the romantic in me talking but they don't build strong leaders anymore.
We are in the day and age of the technocrat leadership style where its all for nothing, no negotiation, accept my idea or its all your fault.
And this useless bickering and infighting is becoming incredibly dangerous.
I'm not going to put the full blame on the President, that's not the intent here, but he's not exactly the consensus leaders that I'd hope he'd become..
We've entered the politics of self interest and preservation.
Whoever the next president is, whoever the next leaders are at all levels, there's going to have to be middle ground negotiation and reasonableness.
That includes the stupidity of Republicans and Democrats that are entrenched in bankrupt ideology.
Hope and change is an empty message without hearing and open and honest negotiation.
But even without that there won't be an open civil war, the majority of American's are too smart and rational for that. What you might see is even greater apathy as people lose faith in their leadership and completely check out.
