And you think that EDC Vegas, Electric Zoo, Digital Dreams, Coachella, SXSW, <insert festival name here>, would be any different?

Huh? First, I'm not sure where I even implied that any other festival was different. Second, having been to a number of other festivals, yes, they are quite different. EDC in NY is a nightmare. Governors Ball, Catalpa, even Rock the Bells when it's been held in NYC are much more tolerable and less overrun with that dbag element.

Have you been to EDC NY?
I have been to Electric Zoo. A very small subset of the crowd was behaving as those in that video.

I live here and deal with that element every weekend. Both NY EDC's were held outside of the city, and unsurprisingly were swarmed by these types. Thanks, but I'll pass.
The sooner they seal the rail tunnels to LI and Jersey trash the better.

Oh are you the thread police now? I'm not sure if you noticed, but there was a conversation about these sorts of issues at bigger festivals in this thread, thanks for keeping up. There's an ignore button if you can feel free to use.

For those interested, it seems that this is the place to post this. SHM very last set at Ultra this year
Speaking to another poster's comment, I kind of wish they had video capture like this back in the day, so that shows like Daft Punk in 06 at Coachchella could be captured like this.
I wish I was here. My sister saw them in Toronto and said they were absolutely insane.
Either way, epic set, very last set, and it's jaw dropping. I have watched it at least 10-15 times, and listened to it even more. What a way to go out.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but what about this set is jaw dropping? I guess you could make the argument that the lights, location and amount of people are, but the set? They literally get up there press play and then interact with the crowd.
I guess it's cool that electronic music has finally become more popular but it really sucks that there doesn't seem to be any appreciation for mixing anymore. It's all about hearing the same songs set to fancy lights.

Clearly you don't have any idea what these guys do.
There's a reason why it takes these dj's months and months to put these sets together. They are not just up there pressing play. In fact it's quite the opposite. Most literally create the music while they are up on the stage taking the stems from all their songs and laying them over top of each other. That's the main reason that a dj's set will almost never be the same at 2 shows. While the sequence of the songs they play might be, it's always different once it comes together.
Does that make sense?

This article pretty much sums it up for me:

Quote:
Playing the same stuff over and over is not the way to make that happen. That’s the way to turn people off. That’s the way to repeat history from the rap game — and dance music is so much better than rap.
So this is a message to all the DJs out there who read Dancing Astronaut (and to the ones who don’t too): Don’t be afraid to take risks. Don’t be afraid to play a song that you released in 2011, 2010, or 1995 for that matter. Don’t be afraid to play a new song from an up-and-comer that has the potential to make people “go bananas.” Don’t be afraid to omit your latest single for once. Don’t be afraid to leave us wanting more.

Agreed. Every set is different. I've listened to the sets from their Euro trip, the New York show, and this one. Although playing the same line up so to speak, it's far from the same. The transitions are all different, and they work the crowd differently too.
Jaw dropping in the sense that it's an hour and a half set, they brought out John Martin, and their interaction. Sure, the lights are cool, but the set is absolutely epic. Not to mention the music. I've been following SHM since their inception pretty much, and they put on a phenomenal show. The sheer number of people and being in that environment is unreal. So much love and appreciation, and with the video, it transports you right in to the crowd. Especially considering it was their last set, that love and appreciation is felt through the video.
While I agree that the set list is the same from show to show, big names have to play to the crowd that loves them. They know that the crowd will go nuts for certain tracks, so they go with that. The good ones will work on their transitions and calls during the set though.
To each their own I guess.

Who's getting excited? What do those of you going have planned besides EDC?
I'm thinking Surrender nightswim Thursday, Diplo at EBC Friday, and XS on Monday, and of course EDC Friday - Sunday night.
Was debating going to another pool party either Saturday/Sunday but that may be too much.

I personally don't think I'll be doing any extra partying during my time in Vegas as I damn near killed myself on my 5 week European vacation that ended only 4 days ago. Also, no chance I'm up in time to get into the pool parties during EDC. When I was in Vegas last year on a normal weekend you were pooched if you weren't in line by 10:30 am. Not happening if I'm out until 7 am the night before.
We land on the Wednesday so maybe I'll do something light those two nights but definitely not doing anything besides EDC on the weekend.
I just don't want to put my body through 5 days of drinking so soon after my trip. If I do that it'll make it 38/54 days spanning from my trip to the end of EDC where I've been (or will be) drunk... Then it's Canada Day long weekend and Stampede a couple weeks later. No. I cannot let myself drink outside of EDC.

I was going to say, if you can stick to your plan I will be very impressed. I tried to last year and failed, so figured I'd grab tickets to things in advance this year. Whether I actually make it in time to get in is a different story.

Woo!!! Cazzete added to the line up! It keeps getting better and better.
Also, Calgary's own Mitchell Claxton will be playing too. Known him since Jr. High!
