This thread is one day too early. Need to wait to see who wins the lottery first.

Here's a good article on NHL.com that has the chances of each team winning the lottery as well as how the lottery has affected previous drafts:

If that happens, Feaster should be free of any criticism for a year.

Hmmm.
In my "prediction" Feaster didn't really do anything that special IMO.
He just got lucky having Barkov fall to him because of Nurse jumping up a couple spots, and Carolina being willing to gamble on Nichushkin.
Then he got lucky again having Lindholm drop out of the top ten (Zadorov, Domi and Ristolainen jump up), and then Philly is willing to deal because they feel they will get a better combination of two prospects they are high on at 22 & 30 than they would with the combination of 11 & 41.
Reality will probably differ greatly from my prediction though. (obv)

posted a prediction in the draft thread a few days ago ... changed it now because of CGY and EDM switching places and PHI passing BUF, NJ and DAL. Expanded it to 14 teams and think this could be realistic in terms of team needs ... but who knows, right?
# 1 - Florida Panthers: D Seth Jones
Too good and too much of a building block to pass.
# 2 - Colorado Avalanche: C/RW Nathan MacKinnon
Tough choice. What they'd really need is Jones, but if they plan to use MacKinnon on the wing like some scouts suggest, a Landeskog-Duchene-MacKinnon line would be pretty neat.
# 3 - Tampa Bay Lightning: LW Jonathan Drouin
A no-brainer if Jones and MacKinnon are gone. They don't have a glaring need at the center position with Stamkos and Lecavalier, but a skilled LW like Drouin makes a lot of sense.
# 4 - Nashville Predators: C Aleksander Barkov
They don't need Barkov immediately IF he has to stay over there because of military service (I'm not sure if he has to), as they have two veterans in Fisher and Legwand. Wilson+Barkov down the middle is solid going forward.
# 5 - Carolina Hurricanes: RW Valeri Nishushkin
Outside of Semin and Skinner, the Hurricanes don't have quality wingers. They have locked up a Russian primadonna to a long-term contract, maybe they'd take a flyer on another one?
# 6 - Calgary Flames: C Elias Lindholm
The Flames have the choice between him and Monahan in this scenario. Both look very solid going forward and you probably can't go wrong with either one of them. I like Lindholm slightly more, so he gets the nod in this scenario.
# 7 - Edmonton Coilers: D Darnell Nurse
Don't know if MacTavish and his scouts see it that way, but that's what they need, anyway.
# 8 - Buffalo Sabres: C Sean Monahan
They already have good center depth, but given that they have two first rounders, they can afford to go BPA here and Monahan is too good to pass up at this point.
# 9 - New Jersey Devils: D Rasmus Ristolainen
Zidlicky, Salvador and Tallinder are all in their mid 30s, and in addition to Larsson and Merrill, a puck-moving defenseman like Ristolainen gives the Devils a great foundation on the blueline.
# 10 - Dallas Stars: LW Hunter Shinkaruk
I thought defenseman at first, but after trading for Joe Morrow, I could easily see them strengthen the wing with a pure goal scorer like Shinkaruk.
# 11 - Philadelphia Flyers: D Ryan Pulock
They Flyers already have good depth among young forwards, but they desperately need an impact prospect on the blue line and could need a puck-moving defenseman, as Timonen doesn't get younger and Carle is gone. Therefore, they go with Pulock.
# 12 - Phoenix Coyotes: C Max Domi
The Coyotes have often chosen defenseman in the first round over the last years and they have had some success with them. They chose a forward late in the first round last year with Samuelsson and it's time to go forward again this year.
# 13 - Winnipeg Jets: RW Adam Erne
The Jets used their first two first rounders after their move to Winnipeg for a center in Scheifele and a defenseman in Trouba. Both are looking good so far ... so how about a winger to go along with them?
# 14 - Columbus Blue Jackets: LW Anthony Mantha
The Jackets' left wing is extremely weak when it comes to prospects, so a goalscorer and power forward like Mantha is a good choice for the first of their three first round picks.
Honorable mention and other top 20 candidates: Bo Horvat, Nikita Zadorov, Josh Morrissey, Frederick Gauthier, Robert Hägg.

Predictions for the Flames:
1st round: Lindholm (C), Hartman (RW), Hagg (D)
2nd round (via trade somehow): Bogdan Yakimov (C)
3rd round: Viktor Crus-Rydberg (C)
4th round: Mitch Wheaton (D)
5th round: Juuso Ikonen (LW), Connor Rankin (LW)
6th round: Carson Soucy (D)
7th round: Evan Allen (C), Nicolas Beaudin (LW) (Jankowski's classmate from Stanstead)
Would love for the Flames to trade a veteran for a second round pick. Tons and tons of good selections available.

Assuming order doesn't change (which is unlikely).
Florida - Mackinnon
Avs - Jones
T-bay - Barkov
Nashville - Nurse
Carolina - Drouin
Calgary - Lindholm
Edmonton - Pulock
Buffalo - Monahan
Some surprises

I have said it before and I will say it again.
My biggest fear is Calgary taking Nishishkin (sp?).

For the Flames it comes down to Lindholm vs Monahan.
If they win the lottery it comes down to Seth Jones or trade down for Mackinnon.

After his comments, and then a very mediocre World Under 18s, I think he could fall into the teens - maybe even the mid teens.

That is a really interesting player. have seen him placed in a couple top 10s and a couple almost 20 range. Seems like the kind of pick that shakes the order up a bit...which happens every draft.

Carolina wins lottery.
Carolina - Drouin
Florida - Barkov
Colorado - Jones
TampaBay - Nichuskin
Nashville - Lindholm
Calgary - MacKinnon
...
Was trying to think of a scenario where MacKinnon could fall to the 6th pick... but that's really more of a long shot than the Flames' 6.2% chance to win the lottery.
My pecking order for picks if I'm Feaster going into the draft:
MacKinnon, Barkov, Monahan, Lindholm - take who's ever left when you go up to the podium. If none of these guys are left, kick yourself for not trading up. (Though I guess if they're picking 6th and all of these guys are gone it means we probably get Drouin, so odds of that is even slimmer, we should get one of those last 3 on the list)

If Drouin falls to Carolina, I see them taking him for sure. If he's already gone, Carolina's may take a chance on Nichushkin with Jersey and Philly the only two other non-playoff teams that I think risk drafting him.
For Calgary, the chance at Monahan or Lindholm is awesome (unless somehow Barkov slips to 6th).
