The other fans can stay tuned in until either their team's name is announced in the position it should be (meaning they didn't win), or not announced (meaning they won, and the rest of the announcements are moot).
If he announces Nashville has the #5 pick, then we'll know that one of the 5-14 teams won the lottery and they'll still waste everyone's time by announcing that Tampa will pick #4; Colorado will pick #3; and Florida will pick #2, before actually telling people what they want to know.
Either way, it's a stupid waste of a half hour of tv time for something that can just be announced in a tweet. I don't know why anyone would actually watch the whole show when the only important moment will happen with about 30 seconds left.
|
Given the network having a trade deadline preview show a month in advance, nothing on that network is a "waste" of time; I am sure it will be sponsored event. Whether they're creating the demand or reacting to it, is another issue.
The actual final result call will likely be with 7-10 minutes left, they'll need to go to commercial, then come back with the (in person or phone) "winning" GM for comments.

Chicago Bulls won the 2008 lottery with a 1 in 1.7 chance.
We got this. We have a 4x advantage!

Who's the owner up in Edmonton again? Is it the same guy that buys politicians
Seriously, conspiracy theories aside, why not show it publicly?

If we dont win I hope Nashville or Carolina do. This pushes colarado down to 3 who really need a defensemen. Then if Florida tskes Druin maybe colorado would trade us for our pick plus the st loius pick so we csn get Mackinnon.
Its pie in the sky but if somehow we can come away with Mackinnon I would be stoked

Would be amazing if we won it, but I'm not holding my breath. This is the Flames we're talking about remember.
If we did win, I think there would just be a tremendous feel good factor around the club and fans over the summer, which would coincide nicely with the rebuild.
All I ask is that a team below us doesn't win it so that we don't get pushed down to 7th. If it isn't us, just let Florida/Colorado/TB/Nashville/Carolina win it.

Referencing the NBA Draft Lottery has little point since David Stern rigs it routinely.

No kidding. Which is fine by me because Wiggins will 100% for sure be a Raptor next year. If the Yotes win the lottery then i think we all have the right to be sketchy.

If that's really how the lottery works that seems overly complicated for no apparent reason.

I don't think Florida will win it for some reason, I'm betting Carolina wins it.

You would think TSN would want at least the top 7 announced since Calgary and Edmonton are the only Canadian teams in the mix. I could see top 5 in the past since you could only move up so far.

I was hoping for top 7 as well and when Mr. Daly doesn't call our name at 7 and 6 we will know we have won the draft lottery and celebrate.

Somebody posted this idea already, but I'm throwing it out there again:
Why is there a lottery only for the 1st overall pick? Have a lottery for all top 5 picks, at the very least. Redistribute/re-weight the percentages in a way similar to how they are now after each pick. Throw a rule in there that you can only drop down MAX 2 or 3 spots.
More drama, and a much better way to insure teams don't go out of their way to tank or ice AHL-quality rosters.
