That team made a huge mistake picking Yakupov when Galchenyuk was on the board.
It's ironic, I almost feel that Edmonton winning the draft lottery almost hurt them. BPA is an excellent strategy, and one I hope the Flames adhere to, but passing on Murray and Galchenyuk when your organizational need is center and defensive really hurts.
What if they traded their 1st round pick + The Nuge (or something similar) to Nashville for Shea Weber? Edmonton immediately gets that #1 stud defenseman and Nashville enters a full on rebuild with the 4th and 5th picks and draft Barkov + Nurse or Barkov + Nichushkin.
Weber can not be traded until after July 24th because of the offer sheet he signed.
I think the 3 teams most likely to be looking to go into a 'retooling' type scenario are NJD, DET and PHX... either of these teams might be willing to trade a good D in exchange for a Top 3 pick... I guess DET is the least likely to do so as D is where they're looking for help, but they might make an aggressive play if they could land Seth Jones.
PHX has the most young D of the group, I think. I could see a dealing involving Yandle and the Oilers pick.
Personally, I probably wouldn't be willing to move EDM's pick for Yandle, but I suppose it depends where the pick ends up, what the whole deal looks like, what other moves are available, etc.
I've heard a few people mention Iginla could end up in Edmonton this summer. Unfathomable.
I've said it before and i'll say it again. Iginla signs with Edmonton for 1 year than retires there as he is from there. Through, I think he will do so once he gets his hands on a Stanley Cup.
I would deal Giordano AND Glencross for the Oilers pick assuming it's 6th overall or better. Not sure if either side is interested though. I can see Glencross waiving his NMC to go to Edmonton.
The amount of concentrated stupid contained in these suggestions is staggering. Particularly the final sentence. You do understand the circumstances by which Glencross left Edmonton to join the Flames, right?

If you ever run into Glencross, you should ask him what he thinks of the Oilers.
Signing Iggy would the the best way to continue losing. I wouldn't come within a 100 miles of him when he hit UFA. Not a guy you want around the young kids, will kill whatever coach is there, create a complacent, entitled team culture.
This threade got me thinking about Philadelphia, what are they going to do? They have to do something, drastic, I would guess they are as stunned as the Oilers on how things have turned out lately.

Ok so if that happens what I need you to do is this, I'm going to jam my Samurai sword into my guts and twist it causing my intestines to fall around my feet, then when I nod my head as I'm suffering an agonizing death, you're going to cut my head off with the samurai sword that I give you.
I've included an instructional video starring Tom Cruise so you don't mess this up

Iggy said he wants to win a Cup, can't do that in Edmonton. Iggy said he wants to play with the best players in the world, while Edmonton is talented they definitely don't have the best.
It has also been hinted he wanted to avoid the West and the Dome, well nothing could be further from that than signing with the Oilers.
Talking heads will talk, they also told us that Boston was a done deal, nothing is done until Iggy signs off, so this tells me that none of these clowns have the inside track to Iginla. Nobody might.

I don't think Iginla would ever sign in Edmonton unless he really doesn't care how he's perceived by people in Calgary. That would almost guarantee tarnishing his legacy here. I can totally see the fans turning on him and booing him when he comes to the Saddledome.
And guess what? He'll deserve it. Yes, he's done a lot for the Calgary Flames, but Flames fans have also done a lot for him by cheering him on. Him signing with Edmonton would be a slap in the face for all the fans who've supported him over the years IMO. Hell, I'd even boo his jersey retirement if that ever came to pass.

Not only that, but Nashville doesn't believe this season was indicative of the future. They think this year was a combination of short season + injuries. So there is no way they pull the chute on Weber and go "full rebuild".

You're joking right? You think that a bunch of kids on their first contracts are all losers that should be traded away?
Compare Toews and Kane's first 3 years to Eberle's and Hall's.
Toews and Kane were in their 3rd year when they won 2 rounds in the playoffs.
They won the SC the next year.
That is what is supposed to happen when 2 franchise calibre players join the team at the same time.
If Eberle or Hall (currently clearly the best of Edmonton's stars) were anywhere as good as their press clippings there would be no way the Oilers would be drafting top 3 for the year after they started...... never mind 3 consecutive years.
The Oliers have made absolutely no improvement since these guys joined the team.
Their failure is monumental. There is almost no chance that these guys will be the cornerstone of a winning franchise......
YET they are getting paid 6M / year for the next 6 years each almost the identical contracts that Toews and Kane got after their 3rd year.
I am counting on the Flames up-coming first pick to contribute to the Flames winning over the next 3 years than Hall/Eberle have done...... in fact it would be hard to see the Flames being led by Baertschi/Backlund and this years #1 being anywhere as close to as bad as the Hall/Eberle/RNH led oilers.
