Having been a commish in another sim league years ago I wanted to offer my 2 cents... now rounded up to a nickel
One thing that a number of sim leagues have is an engine that all the gm's have access to. So they can actually sim games on their own and essentially develop an element of "practice"
I recall test simming dozens of games "practicing" my lines in preparation for a playoff series. It definitely gave a feel like an element of coaching or on ice team management was in effect.
I am not sure if this is something we could institute in our current league structure or not.
Through practice sims you can find some of the holes in your team. You can play around with your sliders to see what best suits your team without piling up official losses. You can see if your pk needs better personnel... etc etc
From a scientific approach testing the result before would add stability.
