Souray of course had a point, to which the Oilers buried him in OKC to shut him up. Remember the Oilers also tried to send guys the Kings doctors flagged as injured, twice, a couple years ago to complete a trade.

We've had a glimpse into Lowe's hiring procedures over the past week, and over the years, his old school mentality pretending its still 1983 ("So RNH should just suck it up like Lee Fogolin did") so it really isn't that much of a surprise.

Honestly if you're a doctor or any world class expert in sports medicine are you choosing Edmonton as your home?

It wouldn't surprise me if they had access to the 30th ranked everything in the NHL.

I know its fun to dump all over the Oilers, but the University of Alberta has one of the premiere medical programs and facilities around. I think they would have little problem attracting and holding onto people in the medical field.

The problems with the Oilers fall on the shoulders of the guys making the decisions. Their medical and training teams are crap because Lowe and company make poor hiring decisions.

RNH has his short 1 1/2 year career interrupted 7 times due to shoulder injuries. Not a good sign if your an Oiler fan. RNH the label should read fragile breakable if dropped.

It's a sign of the times that teams are bringing top prospect into the league but they really should think a little forward with some of these kids. This is why the Flames have to take their time with Jankowski as these slight built kids just aren't physically ready for to play against big men of the NHL. All this shoulder damage may play a role in shortening RNH's career. I know that he had nothing left to prove in the WHL but at the same time he would probably be in a lot better physical condition today as this lingering shoulder issue is from his first year with the Oilers where he was just too small.

You dont quite seem to understand how these things work. He already had a job, the University was trying to entice him to leave that job and come to Edmonton to do something he is exceptionally good at.

Its not a typical Employer/Employee relationship. He is in demand and the U of A is bidding for his services.

Further, his wife also had a job and was going to transfer but they cut her vacation time and refused to be flexible. She wanted 11 more days off that she agreed not to be paid for. Sounds reasonable.

The U of A wants this guy, that means you have to give him what he wants. Its not like he was desperate for the job, the University was desperate for him so they have to accommodate him within reason.

So he just goes elsewhere.

Yeah. Two weeks vacation is pretty ridiculous for anyone with experience especially someone leaving her kids back in Europe. If you're going to go to lengths to recruit all star scientists to EDM and it's crap weather i dont think the wife asking for 11 days unpaid vacation should be a deal breaker for the University. I've asked for the same from a salaried job and was granted it and i didnt even have kids back in Europe. And then the guy offers to run the program on the cheap from England and the University isn't interested.

Sounds like a real petty squabble from the University's end. Doesn't surprise me as big administrations often are uncompromising even on matters that shouldn't be huge deals.
