Jokinen may be the most underappreciated player in the NHL... He's been waived at least twice, traded twice, and he seems to slot right into whatever team he's on in their top 6 with no trouble whatsoever.
And he was had for a CONDITIONAL 7th. WTF Pittsburgh, you can't just give up a 7th round pick? With all the former 7th rounders having better careers than Jussi Jokinen...

Oh ya I wasn't expecting Iggy to replace Kunitz immediately, the way he's been lighting it up this year. But you gotta know at some point they're gonna shove those 2 together, especially after the Olys. PP, even the odd shift, I'm sure they would've experimented with the 2 together at times.
They'd be stupid not to, Pittsburgh fans have been talking about Iginla as the perfect compliment to Crosby for at least the last couple years since it become a real possibility for him to be dealt at some point.

As I have read on their fan sites, he has been slow and out of the play. He hasn't shown them a lot yet, including zero physical side to his game. A lot of floating. Can't say I am shocked.. but I am sure he will pick it up, especially once playoffs start.

I've watched Iggy play with the Pens quite a bit, so far I think he looks good. Yes a bit slow and still trying to learn the system there, but he looks better than most games he's played with Calgary recently.

Iginla has been great in Pittsburgh. He's been huge down low; he and Malkin have been developing some pretty nice chemistry playing behind the net and in the slot. Also, it seems like he's able to generate some pretty good flow regardless of who he plays with there. He's lost both of his linemates to injury, but last game he looked like he didn't miss a beat playing with two new ones.
Also, one can argue that Morrow and Jokinen look good because of how deep Pittsburgh is. When you have Malkin, Iginla and Neal as your second line, there aren't too many teams out there that will be deep enough to defend well against your third and fourth lines.
|
I have to agree with Dion, before I saw this thread it didn't even cross my mind to check how is he doing. Doesn't mean I won't post in the thread but Iginla's been off my radar till about 2 minutes ago.
Go Bruins!

Flames fans called this leadership when he was here! Streaky career! 75% of the games the leadership was there. Quote above describes the other 25% of the season!

No its not. If you have a guy you had rated higher and he's falling those 5 spots WILL make a difference, not having to sit and wait those 5 selections to see if the guy falls further or you give up and asset to move up. Vice versa if you have the 25th and another team wants to move up to get a free falling guy then you've just added an extra asset.
I want the Pens pick to best pick as possible. I don't care if Iginla wins the cup or not, It's about the Calgary Flames!

Seriously. Even a four pick difference is huge. 26th compared to 30th is the difference between getting a Corey Schneider, Kyle Palmieri, or David Perron versus getting a Simon Despres, Nick Ross, or Matt Corrente.
Who the hell are Nick Ross and Matt Corrente, and why do Flames fans want to give up a potential impact NHLer just so Iggy can get a cup...

I dunno, watching his press conference before he left he seemed a lot more excited about going to Pitts than bummed about leaving his "home" for a decade and a half. People who were there to see him off sounded more torn up about it than he was. I was a little disappointed at that, not to say that he shouldn't have been excited cause he should, but that he didn't appear to be as sentimental about Calgary than Calgary was about him.
Then his comments later about the facilities and going on to relate that somehow to a 'winning atmosphere', he sounded pretty easily pleased, and was already spouting out comparisons to an organization that held him so high and treated him like gold for years, but he talked about it like it was night and day after a mere couple days. That was kind of a slap in the face to say the least.
I like and support the guy, but as an iconic figure for the city for so long I would've hoped for him to not embrace the club just about instantly and at least give them a hint of difficulty (mentally) in making his first move ever since being in the league.
But in a way I'm glad that the past few weeks have reaffirmed that my allegiance with the flaming C has always been above even its long time captain. And his moving did not alter that. I'll watch them in the playoffs, but I wouldn't be unhappy to see them bust a tire and land us a better pick. Flames above all.

I really disagree with the posters who are saying he is playing well. I've watched as many PIT games since he was traded as I've watched CAL games this season due to the fact that they actually televise Crosby & Co here in Sweden.
I find that Iginla has been very tentative and uninvolved in the play, he's looked rather slow and only on a few occasions has he finished his checks.
Not trying to defend the trade or marginalise his worth, but he's not looking very good in PIT in my opinion.

He pretty much always leads forwards in minutes played... so pretty not too bad I guess.

I haven't watching games at all, but from watching highlights and looking at stats, he's been in on several key goals.

If I'm not mistaken, the pens have had trouble scoring for the last 10-15 games. S o iginlas 4pts is solid if not spectacular. Not defending him, but it has to be different to be a soldier after so many yrs as general.
I expect he will be on fire come the playoffs. Especially against the rangers, islanders or jets. I am actually very curious as to what kind of contract he will eventually see. Is he going to sign a low price contract to stay with pens/contender, or a medium contract with the flames? I can't see him getting a big $$ contract unless its with a loser or the rangers. And I will lose respect for him if he does.

Theoretically true, but the Flames likely have their eye on some college prospect ranked 50th.

I agree that he hasnīt been very good so far, although the whole team has struggled since Crosby has been gone. Yeah they pull the wins but it hasnīt been pretty.

With Pittsburgh, projecting to an 82 game schedule, Iginla is on a 12 goal, 35 assist, 47 point pace.
He's averaging 17:56 per game.
Through a full season, accounting for injury time lost, it would be the worst statistical result of his career.
Combining his Calgary and Pittsburgh numbers and projecting an 82 game result, he'd be on a 22 goal, 34 assist, 56 point season.
Still one of the lowest statistical seasonal results of his career.

Removing Crosby, Neil, Malkin and Martin takes some pretty out of the lineup.
Iginla is eating up a lot of minutes, with those guys out. He will be a solid contributor, no more or less.
Funny how I watched the first couple Pens games with great interest... and now could care less. He has moved on; so have I. Flames far more interesting that in last 2 or 3 years and I'm loving it.

Agreed, I went out of my way to watch the first game... part of the next game that was on TSN and have checked the odd box score since to see how he is doing.
Still wish him the best, but the fan base has definitely moved on in a hurry, which is for the best. We got a lot of exciting young players on the team right now that have been a lot more interesting to watch than 30 year olds try and squeeze into 8th.
