As a 4th liner and 3rd string goalie, maybe.

I thought Street would be getting sent down today, not Aliu.
My guess is that they want to try Hanowski in the fourth-line "S"-disturber role for a few games.

Aliu was extremely hard to get off the puck along the boards and the Oilers had difficuly when he pinched in and mucked in the corners etc.
Its like Hartley doesn't apperciate this element on a team. The Flames have lacked it most of the season. Street out side of the 1 nice burst to the net was not noticable last night.

Yep... It seems the plan was to win with small skilled guys and the play of Alui, Jackman. Horak and Reinhart played very well (and bigger) with the big men backing them up. Yesterday was an embarrassment to the "plan".
Or maybe the Flames just want to tank and get the best draft pick available.

I don't think Aliu showed enough to stick or earn a contract next season. Flames will be best served opening up that contact slot for other players next year.

I've been an Akim fan since he joined the organization. I'm hopeful he can find an agitator role with the big club...but considering his play this season I'm not really sure he's done anything to deserve it. I sense he's gone too.

Sorry dude, I know how badly you want to trash the coach, but you can't hold this one on Hartley. Aliu was an emergency recall, that emergency being Glencross' illness. As soon as the emergency ended, Aliu had to go down.

Yes, that is true - he mucked it up well in the offensive zone. I'm guessing you didn't watch him play in the defensive zone because I caught myself yelling at him to pick up the open man several times. One time resulted in a wide open one timer (that luckily went wide). He stared right at him twice and let him skate by.
To me, as much as I'd love him mucking it up, I think he's forgotten his role. He needs to play hard at both ends of the ice. He seems to me, in this limited sample size, to just not be a very smart player. Reinhart, on the other hand, made me happy with his smart play most of the night.

I'm unclear how those work.
Aliu was recalled after the game on Friday and Street was recalled on Saturday, shortly before the game. Tanguay was injured in Friday's game and Glencross got sick on Saturday. Based on the timing, it would appear Aliu was recalled to replace Tanguay and Street for Glencross, so there obviously isn't a one-to-one relationship between who is recalled for each injury/illness.

Emergency recalls are one for one, and on the transfer form, the team has to specify who the player is replacing on an emergency basis. At least, that was how the 2005 CBA did it, and I don't remember anything in the MOU that would have changed it. I would guess the Flames knew Glencross wasn't doing well Saturday night, in that case.
