And yes, proportional representation is a better system than preferential ballot.

It's the regional representative that the most people wanted. It's not perfect but IMO it's still a lot better than pure proportional representation in a country/province as large as ours as this way at least ensures that some of your local concerns are being represented.
I wouldn't be opposed to having some kind of mix of FPTP and PR though.

So predictable.
Someone has a question about the PC's?
Answer with fears about the WR that has nothing to do with the original question and offers zero insight as to the actual topic....nevermind is all based on conjecture and bias.
It just tells me how scared PC supporters have become about both the Redford record and the inevitability they will lose power at some point to the WRA....as well as it confirms the PC's are nothing but Liberals wearing PC clothing....deflect deflect deflect!!!
Its become humorous.
As for the OP....she has screwed up a lot more than she has done well...yes there are a few things she can be commended for, but the amount of bungling and that last budget overshadow by a mile any good she has done. Its really quite pathetic actually considering the mandate she was given.

Its amusing because I don't see many ringing endorsements in this thread? I think most people have been fairly honest in their assessments actually. Even the Wildrose 'attacks' are basically inconsequential here.

I don't know anything about politics. Seems like Wildrose and PCS are both bad choices from what I think I've read. So what about the other parties? NDP or Liberals are they even worse?

The Liberals and NDP aren't worse, so much as inconsequential. Both are plagued by weak leadership that has failed to earn the trust of Albertans or show any reason why they matter.

This is true. They are even more strongly anti-Redford and it is definitely showing in the editorial bias.

The only smart thing I've seen Alison Redford do is make Thomas Lukaszuk Deputy Premier. Keep your friends close ....

Regional representation can be preserved (or even enhanced) in a proportional system. This is a false dichotomy.

I also find it hilarious that an actual question about what Redford has done for Alberta basically turned into a Wildrose bashing thread from post #2 on.
Deflect, deflect, deflect.
Maybe that is why Alberta is stuck with a crap government that is falling apart? Because people can't hold them accountable for anything they do because they are even more scared of the government they don't even have?
Everyone is stuck worrying about the Wildrose Party and has been for years now, and in the meantime Alberta is going to hell in a handbasket.

I don't believe Premier Redford is corrupt, but other than that accusation, it sounds like you're talking about Danielle Smith to me - especially the pettiness and duplicitousness.
I guess it all depends on your POV.

Accountability in government requires a threat. Something that people are comfortable with. You're still voting the party you think is best when you're in a party system, and neither option seems completely in tune with the average Albertan.
The act of accountability in federal politics is often made by Ontario because they carry many key votes and have historically flopped between Liberal and PC, forcing the hand of the party who needs to appease them. In Alberta, the WR was shown to be a possible act of accountability against the PC until the PC panic button flipped over some social comments (whether fairly done or not) which gave big city voters cold feet.
It seems Alberta (well, at least main city Alberta) is willing to forgo their issues with the PC party on the economics side more than they are willing to reconcile some of the awkward associations that they'd have if they elected a WR government. In this sense, they definitely are scared of this association of members which don't reflect their social values more than they are scared of the PC running the economy. Some of it was mudslinging from a desperate PC party which dug up anything it could, yes, but ultimately shows the province wants to move away from the socially conservative label (again, given voting patterns, this pertains to big cities in the province). It also shows that they want a leader who's stance on the issue is stronger than being that she "won't legislate on that", even if the economics are more in tune with the province's attitude.

I wouldn't concede the economics side of things so easily to the Wild Rose.

Alberta was equally as scared of the Liberal Party for 30 years when the Wildrose Party wasn't even around. So much so that they voted for the PCs for 30 years straight.
That is why you don't have any accountability.
You know what they say, "you get the government you deserve."

Accountability can only be done if there is a viable alternative option. With the questionable/backwards social values the WR has shown off from their members, it has scared people off from them being that option.

The Sun has editors? Sorry but that newspaper (using the most liberal sense of the word news) is awful claptrap that I don't think the vast majority of educated people can stomach... It is written at a grade 5 level and while I am hardly an intellectual it really does pain me to see it when people bring up a Sun article in a debate/conversation.

They had a few members say stupid stuff.
How that translates into a big potential problem nobody knows, especially considering we are talking about a provincial government. Its not like they would ban same-sex marriage and abortion tomorrow if they were elected today.
On the other hand, its nice to know the PCs can get away with almost a decade of ridiculous policies without having to be accountable simply because Albertans are scared of a supposed fringe part of the WR Party being more social conservative than they like.

And the WR tackled that issue head on in the fall and will continue the discussion in the next couple of weeks at a policy conference
The question is whether the electorate will pay attention.

Oh you mean the thread created by a Wild Rose fan boy went off track? It was a weak attempt to bash Redford and the PC's and it backfired on the WR fanboy.

Ah yes.
The other side of the argument. People only criticize the PCs because they are Wildrose fanbois.
