I really want the Flames to sign Ryder and Clarkson. Clarkson especially.
No to Ryder. Team already has at least three one dimensional forwards under contract for next year in Tanguay, Cammalleri, and Hudler.

We need more players who compete consistently. Bring young players up in the right environment.

I don't understand why rebuild has to mean sucking for five years. The Flyers had one disastrous season, stockpiled assets, signed some not over the hill UFA's, and got better the next year.
You don't bring in overpriced talent to take away ice time from players that need to develop.

The answer's in the room! Cervenka is an UFA.I think the Flames should re-sign this guy before Jul 1. Yr 2 should be way better.

Clarckson would make for a good Signing with an eye towards Captaincy. Remember listening to him during the lockout on Sirrius xm and he impressed me as person. Positive guy but loves to compete.

We can't overdue it either. Need to make smart moves Raymond has been winning in Vancouver and Horton has a cup and winning in Boston playing hard and fast. 27 years old good age group. Should go after these guys. 4-5 year deals that take them to 32.

Plus the trade market as well. We can't just take anyone obviously, but we can take on salary.

Who in the system is ready to play full time once Kipper, Cammy/Glencross, Tanguay, and probably Sarich are moved?

We have like 6 legit NHL players. Hudler, Wideman, Backlund, Stempniak, Stajan, Brodie, Giordano?

I think Bouma gets in next year. Sven will too. Max Reinhart will get a shot. Roman Horak has a spot if he does not screw up.

Our defence is a mess. I hope the STL and PIT picks are used to address that.

Just leave a spot open for Sven in the top 6, and dont hassle him about defensive play because its means he gets results you stupid chief!

Sign a couple big fast guys to fill holes, give the team a backbone etc. and continue the rebuild.

Sven, lance, roman horak, max reinhart.

Plus depending on our pick this year he could be inserted in as well. We should be putting in 5-6 young players on the main roster. Supplant then with good moves.

Sven-backlund-Horton
Glencross-mackinnon-Raymond
Hudler-horak-cervenka
Bouma-max-mcgrattan

The d will probably be a debacle. That's where we will have to make smart trades.

That's just a guess roster, but you see how adding hood you g veterans along with our young guys can work.

I just want to see Lombardi and Raymond in the same line. Could get us a bunch of shorties with their blazing speed.

My instinct is that the only players that we're going to be able to sign are the players with no option out there, or the ones we're willing to overpay for .

If Kipper goes then I think the Flames have to start by putting in place their goaltending future first. If Glencross had to go to OTT for Bishop or LA for Bernier then fair enough. Start there. Next get the best defenseman that will come in a draft for the next several years. SETH JONES is a beast. Start here and the rebuild will be a success. DO NOT count on Ramo as much as you are not holding your breath for Yogi Berra!

With the cap dropping, pretty much deleting 1 top player per team the options will be limited for a lot of guys or they will have to take paycut.

Bozak will be targeted, IIRC Boston was pitching for him when he signed with the Leafs and Weisbrod was head college scout.

Flippula is another guy, proven chemistry with Hudler and can play center.

Clarkson is intriguing but I think he signs with a contender. Guy plays that playoff style and wont want to join a rebuild.

Horton, Weiss, and Raymond will also be looked at.

All in all a good year to have capspace. Cap going down leads to limited space for players and teams with room will be able to sign guys, or take on other teams cap dumps for cheap.

We all were mad we didnt have space to take advantage of Chicago's sell off due to cap issues in 2010 but wont have that issue this year when much of the league will be faced with the same tough decisions.

With the cap contracting next year, there may be some guys willing to take higher short term salary's to get trough the 50-50 transition period. So long as they target terms of two years or less, they might as well try it. Even a guy like Daniel Briere may come available, overpaid, but for a couple years a veteran center like him with some playoff acuman might prove worthwhile.
