I believe in the Pony Power
|
I think he's a big part of the future - a top 4 dman in the long-run that has under-rated all around abilities. The organization is missing a long-term #1 dman but I like all of Brodie, Wotherspoon and Sieloff as part of the d core moving forward.

You think he's a legit second pairing guy? I was hoping for a 5-6 guy at best so that would be a pleasant surprise. A mover like Brodie and a solid guy like Wotherspoon would be a nice second pairing.

Its guys like this that have me in the mini rebuild camp. I don't think a 5 year Oiler project is our future. We already have some good pieces in the pipeline as well as on the team.

I think 2nd pairing guy is where his ceiling would be if everything went perfect in his development.

I really like Wotherspoon and I'm glad he signed an ELC.
The timing of this, however, is a bit fishy. When Feaster should be concentrating on trading our aging core, he signs a prospect this week? Why not wait until after the deadline? This makes me think he's being included in a package with one of the vets. I'm not opposed to moving him, if the price is right, but I hope we don't throw him away for nothing.

Wotherspoon was arguably the best Canadian d-man during the WJC in terms of being steady and not making any mistakes.
So happy they signed him. Just the fact that he's getting max ELC money shows how much the Flames like him as well.

His ELC is probably pretty standard deal so I can't imagine Feaster needs to be involved that much beyond telling his staff to email it to Wotherspoon's agent. I'm sure there are others that have received contracts but haven't signed so quickly.

nah, I don't see the Flames trading away Wotherspoon. they were pretty high on him when they drafted him and is an ex-team mate of Sven.

Seems odd that everyone is so keen on a late second round pick, but at the same time skeptical that anyone worthwhile will still be available with Pittsburgh's pick this year.
That being said, the signing looks like a step in the right direction.

i don't think we need to be overly concerned with the timing of this signing. I have seen numerous other clubs signing prospects to ELCs over the past few weeks (on twitter).

Another conspiracy by Feaster. Hmmm.. Now that the Flames is in rebuilding year, i think it is just the right time to sign good prospect like Wotherspoon. I hope Flames sign some of the college players like Gaudreau, Ramage, Arnold and those two players we got from Iggy's trade. That way we don't have to worry about losing them.

Wotherspoon is looking like the best 2nd round pick the Flames have made in a long time.
It doesn't happen often, which is why we're skeptical of late 1sts and 2nd rounders. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come, though.
Wotherspoon might be considered a late 1st rounder if you were to re-do the 2011 draft today.

if anything the timing that is interesting to me is that Wotherspoon gets signed the day after Ramage finishes his college hockey career...
it feels like the Flames made a decision on Ramage compared to the other d prospects and while they were at it decided to get this signing out of the way

I just don't understand why they wouldn't sign Ramage... not like we don't have the room.

I think we should start signing some of our prospects (aka Ramage) rather than giving away contracts to guys in the AHL like Kolanos etc.

Good signing. Wotherspoon is a good player but I think Sieloff has more upside.

I don't think one has anything to do with the other.
