If that's the case (two in six) then you fundamentally don't know how goaltending works and you're placing a ridiculous amount of blame at one players feet. Shocking his numbers fell when Mike Keenan took over and this team forgot how to play team defense and his coaches played him upwards of 70+ games.
But by all means, only look at save percentage like some preteen with a copy of the Sports Forecaster magazine.

Also, next year is an Olympic year, so the whole country will be talking about Iginla again, the Flames management wants all of that free press. The Flames still make a lot of money for these owners and they certainly won't move their largest, fattest cash cow before they have squeezed every possible ounce of cash out of him. Expect to see Iggy in Flames colours again next horrible season.

For the 1000th time its not up to management its up to Iginla. If Iggy wants to win then he is gone. If he is content with his life in Calgary then he will stay. I am pretty sure he wants to win.

He can go ahead and win the cup the years we don't have the other teams picks. No single player is more important than the team imo, and that includes Iginla as well.
|
With all the drivel about logo on the front not name on the back both now and over the past 8 months, I would think that would be an almost universal feeling on CP.
I know I am hoping that Iginla gets trade and his new team goes on a 15 game losing streak, misses the playoffs and wins the draft lottery, thus dropping the Flames from 1-2 in the draft and thus giving the Flames picks 1 and 2 in the draft.
I would think that most Flames fans would be hoping if there is a 2013 1st round pick involved in the deal that Iginla's new team loses each and every single game.

I understand what you mean. Kipper has single handedly carried this team on his back for the better part of the past decade. The only difference between the Flames and the Oilers the last few years is Kipper. The Flames had an awesome goalie and they totally wasted his time here. Very sad.
However, forgetting how bad it can get? Another thread states that this is the worst season (so far) the Flames have ever had in franchise history. How much worse do you think it can get? Outside of being in this spot for the foreseeable future.

Mine... Love Iggy, but it is time.

Matt Barnaby still has a job in hockey? I thought he got black balled after the last dui.
I'd rather get #haveafewdrinksdrivedrunkthenabuseyourexwifebarnab y trending.

After Iggy, there's hardly anyone else to look up to for the new group of kids coming in. The names that I've mentioned includes those 3 awful years with Brent Sutter even if some of those players looked good this season. Tanguay, well Mike Keenan drove him out of town, and Sutter should've left him out of town. What the Flames really need is to get rid of management - meaning Feaster and Ken King. Sutter should have been fire a long time ago and now, I think Ken King should go. Along with Feaster. Enough is enough. Iggy is still the best player on the team albeit he's one of the oldest. That kind of tells you what this team is. If management was doing their jobs years ago, the Flames would've had a number one centerman along with the best power forward, the best goalie in the world, and an awesome big defense with depth. Cripes, this team is now a pushover. On the ice, Iggy right now is the biggest Flames player towering over almost every player on the team in muscle size and height. This makes Jackman look like a joke!
Iggy's never the problem and he isn't gonna be a one man solution for the team either.
|
They have spent 10 years looking for a big #1 centerman... although Jokinen did not work out, they tried and tried and tried and tried. getting Jokinen was a savvy move (the first time). They tried to get O'ryley... Things dont always work out. There are 15 other teams constantly looking for that number one guy in the middle.
Also, "dead beats"? Glencross has one of the best value contracts in the league, Jbo is maybe the most sought after d-man right now, Jackman is not here to pot 20 goals... I'm not sure I understand why you call them all "dead beats"?

If Iginla wants to sign a 6/5/4/3 four year deal with a cap hit of $4.5M -- I'd beall for it. If he's looking for $6M/yr for the next 3-4 years, however, then see what the trade deadline market looks like.

So we'll be hanging on to our captain because we want to sell some jerseys, and we want TSN talking about our team?
No matter how incompetent you think Flames management is, there's no way they're that bad.

I am not bashing Kipper by any means. However, it makes me wonder if Kipper is really that good or is he merely (a bit) better than average? Since his stats depends on so much how the team plays in front of him; it begs the question if a supposedly lesser goalie would perform just about the same?
This doesn't apply to just Kipper; but all other goalies as well. There are clear elite goalies (Brodeur, Roy, etc.) but for the goalies in the next tier, how much of a team defense contributes to their stats?

I hate the way this organization has been run since after the 2004
season.
Catering to 1 player's wishes. Hiring and Firing Coaches. Trading for and signing for players that play good with 1 player.
This organization is a joke.
Until the philosophy of this organization changes this team is going no where.
You can start by moving Iginla and getting on with life.

You're seriously going to switch to being an Oilers fan? Good, don't let the door hit your ass on the way out, you were never a real fan anyways, if you're willing to switch to our bitter rival's team. GFTO, please.

This organization is a joke.
I wont support them anymore.
Fan for 25 Years.
Ownership thinks the Calgary Flame fan base is stupid if they think they can re-tool and try and squeak into the playoffs everywhere and appease the fairweather fans by keeping the Face of the Franchise.
Since Harley Hotchkiss passed away this team has been run like a joke.
It starts from the top. Right from Ownership to Ken King to whatever lame duck GM they hire to do what they say.
Id rather cheer on the Oilers and watch their younger players play. Atleast they play as though they love the game of hockey.
Cant find too many players on the Flames that even care anymore

By definition since you are bailing when times are tough - would you not be the precise definition of "fairweather fan"?
