Hockey players don't like the press box. A player isn't going to refuse to be traded out of a city where they are scratching him almost every night. Babchuk's ability to sign future contracts in this league revolves around showing that he can play in this league. Which he cannot do from the press box.
So if their NMC/NTC are pretty much irrelevant to moving them then why then are people whining about them as if they are a huge detriment? Babchuk and Sarich's NMC/NTC are really inconsequential at this point. I think they'd LOVE to be moved, not refuse to be moved.

You are missing the point. NTCs give the player the power to veto any trade. A player in the last year of his contract might be more willing to waive his NTC, but a player like Sarich who is well established in the league, has won it all, been through situations where he's been scratched, and has another year left on his deal with full NMC until December might be much more selective as to where he is sent. That could mean that instead of say getting a mid round pick from a lottery team, Feaster might have to take the lower pick from a team Sarich is willing to go to or the alternative is having an asset sit in the pressbox. Veterans like Sarich often believe in what they can bring and know that his situation can change quickly so they aren't in a rush to give up their NTC and risk being moved around the league a few times before his contract is up.
