Don't go into teaching just because it's "something to do", because you won't last as a teacher with that kind of approach, or you'll be the crappy kind described above that show up at 8 and leave at 3.
Go into it because it's something you really want to do. I'm in it because I've always wanted to be a teacher, and I love getting to know students and building relationships. It can be difficult and frustrating sometimes but knowing that you are important to somebody (even if it's just one kid) is so rewarding. I had some really great teachers who left lifelong impressions on me in school, the thought that I could be that person for someone else (or a hundred someone elses) is pretty cool and definitely unique to the education field.
Anyway, if you do decide to go into Education, I'll sell you some of my textbooks.

I hope you find something you enjoy, or can at least convince yourself that you enjoy. I never did.

Malcolmk has the right line of thinking when he says find something you really want to do. Choose a career where it becomes an extension of your life as opposed to a 9-5 job where you can't wait for the weekends to arrive.

OT but recently I have been looking at business schools across western Canada.. any suggestions? I'm leaning towards becoming an accountant.

I don't mean to de-rail this thread once again, but I have to laugh at Dess's comment about teachers working 2/3 of a work day.
Does grading papers, tests, preparing lectures, preparing classes not count in a days work?
Go to SAIT.

In fairness to Sliver, I think he was mainly talking about being a gym teacher. I've never understood how they can get paid the same amount as teachers who have to do all of that extra stuff.

If we are talking about a fair comparison, most gym teachers, especially starting out, have to teach at least one other non-gym class.

If you like money... there are lots of jobs. Consider:
Photography (seriously)
Plumbing
Electrician
Welder
Rigs..
SAIT 2 yr technical programs...
Nursing is better for men than people think
there's lots of jobs! Also as for personal trainer thing... that also might not be too shabby if you're interested in that stuff and know what you're doing.

yeah, I'm good at personal training, just finding a way to get clients where you aren't t the gym for 12 hours a day and only getting paid for 7 of them is hard. I may just go back into it while I try to sort out what I actually want to do

It probably depends on the school but I know a couple of gym teachers that coach every sport the school offers as well. So they are typically at school coaching into the evening (6-8pm) 4/5 days a week.

I know here in Winnipeg there are additional coaching incentives for pay for coaches. I honestly would want to get involved coaching football and/or rugby for sure, so thats been a pretty big thing to me when considering if I wanted to go down the education route

It wasn't like that at my school, but that would certainly make up for it. High school coaches are criminally underpaid.

I'm almost 100% positive there is no extra pay to coach in Alberta. They do it because there aren't enough parent volunteer coaches and the kids wouldn't get to play otherwise because there would be no coach.

They can be discussed but no conclusions can be drawn without comparing it to other professions. The question that is very important that this study doesnt answer is is 30% a number specific to teaching or do other professions share similar numbers. If the number is specific to teaching we need to look at first who are choosing to become teachers and a better way of selecting who gets in and hired and then need to look at working conditions. If the 30% is a general issue in society then we need to look at how as a society looks at their jobs.
Throwing out the 30% number and saying it is a reason that teaching isnt an easy or desireable job is drawing a false conclusion from the data.
