Inappropriate picture, but I got it sent to me when my little flames fan was born 8 months ago

Congrats, Chris. She's beautiful. I wish you and your family all the best in health and happiness with your new one. I also salute your excellent Flames-baby fashion sense. My first daughter just had her first daughter (and my first Grandchild) on Valentine's day. She thought she had loaded up for her baby flames fan. You may have exceeded her preparations! Well played, sir. Well played.

Increadable feeling. Wait till they start drinking your beer and eating your steaks. Keeps getting better.
Not kidding, It does.

Congrats.

Great furniture. You did a really good job. To hell with jerseys and printing you should be making custom baby furniture.

Congratulations! You're in for an amazing ride. It does get easier, even when it doesn't seem possible.

My best advice: Don't listen to all of the advice. When you have a baby, everyone tends to chime in with what you should and shouldn't be doing, and it can be quite stressful for you as parents. Obviously, there is good information to be passed along, and we learned a great deal from friends and family who have been there before. But don't feel guilty when you ignore some - even when it comes from someone whom you respect greatly. You'll find what works for you, and it won't be identical to what worked for someone else.

.....soooo true! those first few nights were looooong!!!!

again - i just want to thank all of you for the kind words and encouragement - it's much appreciated

i thought i'd give a little update and post a few more pics...

we knew going into delivery that Jordan was breach. for all of you (like me) who don't have a clue as to what that means... the head was up by mom's ribs and the bum was down by mom's pelvis... so in a nut shell, she was chilling up-side-down. it's not that big of a deal, but becuz she was breach we knew my wife would need a c-section (the doc's didn't want to risk trying to flip Jordan.... in some cases that is a possibility and then they attempt a natural child birth).

becuz Jordan couldn't really move inside of mom she didn't quite grow/develop normally. when she came out, she was doing some funky splits - her left foot was up by her left ear (with her left knee hyper-extended) and her right knee was up by her right armpit. as a result her hips didn't develop properly and dislocate. this apparently is not at all uncommon with breach babies. a specialist was in to see us within a couple hours of Jordan's arrival and made the diagnosis official. by the next morning there was a harness that was put on our little girl... she looks sorta funny in it, but she doesn't seem to mind it. the objective of the harness is to push the top of the femur (the ball part) into the hip socket. we have to leave the harness on for 6 weeks, then hopefully everything will be fixed - so that's encouraging!!

here she is all harnessed up:

and now onto some cute pics.....

she makes the best faces when we need to wake her up to feed - the 'yawn face' is pure gold!!!

and this is how she was sleeping earlier today - so funny. she was out cold with her 'hands up in the air'....

and a funny story from the first night.....

this is our first child so we're kinda clueless.... let me rephrase that.... my wife LOVES kids (that could be why she's a teacher) and has tons of friends with little ones, so she sorta has an idea as to what to expect. me on the other hand... well, i'm more of the 'let me see the kid when i can't break them' kind of guy. before monday i had never held a baby, let alone a new born!!

so monday night Jordan starts to fuss.... and by fuss i mean scream like there was hell fire falling from above. my wife tried everything she could think of to no avail. i look at her and say (almost jokingly), 'here, let me try.' she passes Jordan off to me and i get her in my arms. she got in 1 good scream, then a medium one, then a little murmur, then she was out cold. i stood there, looked at my wife and said, 'REALLY!!!! are you freakin' kidding me!!' i guess my little girl just loves her daddy! now i'm the 'go to' guy every time she starts to cry and pretty much every time she mellows out within about 5 seconds

Thanks for the update, Chris! Awesome images of such an adorable baby girl. Nice to see hear dressed in Flames gear and all.

Sorry to hear about the complications and am glad to hear she is doing well. Give your wife my best.

I look forward to reading further updates

Anyone that can calm a crying baby is definately in good hands. I have not so fond memories of trying to quiet both my niece and nephew when they were babies - the joys of babysitting for my sister. Whatever Chris is doing I sincerely hope it continues.

The same thing happened/is happening with my daughters. Daddy's shoulder is the only thing that'll silence them. Someone needs to do a study on this phenomenon.

I'm so happy for you Chris.
This thread brings back many fond memories.

Then in a blink of an eye, 18 months goes by and you have 1.5 year old!

Reg - i know... that's what everyone keeps saying. i'm just taking lots of pics (she's gonna hate it when she gets married and we put together a 'slide show')

PG - here's my totally non proven theory..... my wife was strapped down for the c-section - arms strapped straight out and feet strapped to the sides of the stretcher. i guess in the past some ladies have freaked out during the surgery (even with the spinal tap knocking out the lower half of their body) making it incredibly difficult for the doctors and dangerous for the baby. once Jordan was out and 'cleaned up' and wrapped like a taco (swaddled) by the nurses they immediately brought her over and put her in my arms so i could show her to my wife. pretty quick after that i had to leave the o.r. as the docs had to finish sewing up my wife. i was with her in a recovery area for probably 10 - 15 minutes... just her and i. i know that babies can't really see for a while so i'm guessing the first real 'smell' she experienced is mine.... while being held in my arms. i was of course trying to comfort her and talked to her and stuff like that. once mom joined us they laid her across my wife's chest skin-to-skin to create a bond, but that initial bond would have been in my arms.

every time she fusses she goes into my arms... the same way she was just moments after coming into this world.

so that's my theory. could be total b.s. but it works for me

I guess the scientific conclusion really should be "everyone's happy, so why ask why?".

Since Nolan came into our lives, I've taken exactly 12,106 photos of him with my DSLR. Good thing my new D800 is rated for a few hundred thousand clicks.
Running out of digital storage quickly too.
