Perry will want too much cash.
If Getzlaf makes it to free agency, give him ALL of the money.

Put aside the fact that I dislike him on a personal level, he is definitely a co-pilot, not pilot. Also, this team must be focused on sorting the center position!

I will prefer Getzlaf over Perry any day. Flames need to start building from center out.
Feaster tried to land a 31 year old center two years back. If they still believe in the rebuilding on the fly, I can see him trying to sign Perry. It is not like they are giving up any assets if they sign a free agent. Sure it ties up a spot, but Perry plays a hard nosed 2 way game and is a premier forward. I would not mind Perry for the right price. With the new CBA, throwing Kovulchuk type contracts is out the window so it might rule out many teams.
I can actually see a team like the Flyers try for Perry. Fits their mold. And they seem to like shuffling the decks every now and then.

The Calgary Flames are pretty much the last place a 27 year old coming into his prime should go to. By the time this team will be worth talking about, he'll start his slide downhill. The timing is just not right.

Well since everyone is tired of green text i decided to go with a different alternative. Acting seriously i would give it a try but most likely we won't get him. Personally i'd rather try to make a run at Getzlaf but once again, it's highly unlikely. If we could pull a Minnesota and get them both for reasonable deals then i would be ecstatic. It would be about time something good happens for us.

how often does a league MVP come available as a UFA...$8 million is fine we have "good" players right now making 6 plus

A huge part of Perry being as good as he is (including his MVP season) is due to playing with Getzlaf.
Pay him 8 million to play here and have him centred by Tanguay, Stajan or Comeau and see how long it takes for the chorus of "fire the GM for this signing" threads to commence.

Doubt that he will come here and don't really think that he is the type of player they should be targeting. With his contract and the team we have now it is hard to see this team contending with him in his prime.

$8M is too much. I think he gets 6 years with an AAV of $7M.
Don't forget the cap ceiling will be lowered next season which will make it difficult for Perry to get more than $7M if he wants to go to a contender.

I think Getzlaf was hurt that season at the end when Corey Perry became "The Monster" that year. I remember Perry carrying that team in the end (though I might be a bit confused).
I am sure Perry feeds off Getzlaf a lot, but Getzlaf feeds of Perry as well. I would bet he still gets over 30 goals a season on whatever team he signs with.

Selanne's retirement at the end of this season will give the Ducks enough space to resign both Perry and Getzlaf

He won't be an 8 Million dollar player here, which was my point.
I doubt he'll be as good anywhere without Getzlaf (though he will still be good), but putting him on our team with absolutely no one to play with down the middle would be a huge mistake if it was close to 8 million long term.

I imagine if he wants to go to a contender he would sign for 6-6.5m per year
if he wants to get paid though someone probably gives him 7.5+
he's a good player but I don't think he should be the top paid guy on a contender, and at 7.5+ you are limiting what you get, Tor/Ott make the most sense if he leaves Anaheim

Great player, but I'll never forget booing him for all but the last part of his tenure in London.
Seriously, the home team booed him.

As long as he keeps his salad tight, then yes. If he wants to go hartnell-esque with his do, then no thanks.

Great player to have, but not at the expense of a top line center if the money could go there instead.
I'd reserve judgment until I see what the Flames look like after the trade deadline.
