3 minutes of ice time in the final two periods.

Thought Aliu did a good job in his limited ice time. I think the Flames now know that he's certainly an option for a recall in the future.
I look forward to seeing what McGrattan can do against the Canucks.

If the average flames fan had control of the team, i honestly dont know if anyone would be employed...we would just fire everyone and then say THERE! BRING THE ABBOTSFORD HEAT TO TOWN!

Aliu was fantastic yesterday. Begin and Jackman should be waived and sent down for Mcgrattan and Jones

Alui did a good job drawing 2 penalties and getting under COL skin. I will be looking forward to seeing McGratten throw knuckles soon.

I must have been watching a different game.
Aliu got smoked with his head down coming out of his own zone after doing nothing in the previous 10 seconds on the ice and was otherwise unnoticeable in his other 3 minutes of icetime.

This makes the team more exciting - even more goals will be scored now (against the Flames) and there will be fights!!!
Exciting hockey!
Great move.

I like McGrattan coming up. If he is like the previous version of McGrattan on this team, then it will be a welcome addition. He knew his role, and nobody messed with the Flames. We don't have 'team toughness' any longer - we are the smallest and lightest team in the NHL. There is absolutely no swagger left - guys interfere and run our goalies all the time, without retribution. The Canucks out-muscle us!
Aliu should not be the one going down. I think that is 2 games now where he does his role well and draws penalties. Begin is doing pretty well - much better than I ever thought he would, to be honest. Jackman... doesn't seem to care so much any longer.

Aliu has the ability to be a shift disturber and McGrattan may get beat up by all the tough guys, but at least he would know his role and drop the gloves when someone runs our goalie again.
|
Does McGrattan lose a lot of fights to tough guys? I seem to recall him being pretty Godard-like in his efficiency.

I went down to the beach and saw Kiki, and she was all like "Flames recall McGrattan, assign Aliu to Heat" and I was like "Whatever"

Fourth line isn't this teams problem. The Flames have been through tons of plugs over the recent past. Did the Flames blow their leads this season because of the fourth line? No.
Maybe its a coaching problem. Ooops. Forgot that we've changed coaches a few times recently.
Whats been constant? Hmmm. I can't seem to figure out what hasn't changed.

According to hockeyfights.com and its viewers Mcgrattan won 5/6 fights last year, against guys like Reaves, Parros, Boll and Cam Jannsen. He can still throw them (as of last year anyway) and is always entertaining. For that reason I'm glad he is back. If the season continues this way we need some entertainment at least.......
I'm all for team discipline but the running of Mcdonald and the Coyle hit on Stajan needs to be answered physcially and was not. He may not crack the lineup every night but Mcgrattan is a beast and brings that intimidation. And entertaining fights. Having an enforcer you can stick in for certain games never hurts as long as the asking price wasn't too much.
Too bad about Aliu being sent down though, I like his style of play. Definitely some other flames that should be heading down there first.

Bingo!!! Finally someone has figured out what the issue is...
Fourth Line is not the problem - Its the "top" players on this team. McGrattan, Begin, Jackman, Aliu - doesn't matter who makes up the fourth line.
No centers (except in Abby), no consistency from the top 3 lines, Comeau on this team, Glencross taking 90% of his shifts off and Baertschi getting little opportunity are the kind of things that are destroying this team.
The coach and management promised entertaining hockey - well we are getting that off the ice for sure.
Personally I am hoping that they continue to lose and we get a top 3-5 pick this year.

I think McGrattan is a good fighter and I'd love to see him beat the heck out of someone tonight. I don't care what the score is as long as we can make the other team pay the pound of flesh.
I'd love to see more "goons" on the team. At least we'd know what to expect!

The people who do not see how 5 minutes a game can improve a teams toughness need to watch when that line goes out. Its not a random tap on the back for the 4th line but a tap when A) something needs addressing or B) A serious energy shift is worth the increased risk of being scored on. Our 4th line has played as good as any 4th line I have seen the flames have over the last numerous years. They actually do a pretty good job hemming teams in their own zone and laying the body. Sure no scoring chances come of it but it is a moral boost for the team.
Having a 1/2nd line tough guy with skill is so rare in todays NHL. The flames can't be faltered for juggling their 4th line. If our 4th line played more last game when we were up the ending could easily have been different. Its not as fun for the opposing team to get pretty with the puck when you know the other guy just wants to run you through the boards.
