Perhaps in St. Louis (he was never a #1 goalie in Dallas), but Petr Buzek was an all-star back then too.
There is no doubt that Turek had decent stats, but he only had one season where he started more than 2/3rd of the games before coming to the Flames. I don't consider that to be all that established. Also consider that back then, Dallas and St. Louis were 2 of the best defensive teams in the NHL. Dallas was an incredible trapping team and St. Louis had Pronger and MacInnis leading their defense. They even made a geriatric Fuhr look good. MacLennan even had a 1.96 GAA in 19 games in one of those seasons.
When the Flames acquired Turek there was a big question mark on how good he actually was. Having said that, he is the 2nd best starting goalie this team has had since Vernon, but wasn't that significant of an upgrade over Braithwaite at the time.

I agree. And with the cap what it is now, the risk is that much less for Fasth. Just think of the money the Flames waisted on players over the past few seasons.
