I really hope for the linesman's sake that he didn't try to justify the call by using that rule. In that position, it's much better to make a wrong call, than to not know the rules. For the latter, he should immediately be fired.
There is absolutely no excuse for officials making as much money as they do not knowing every rule exactly.

Not related to your post, as a guy who has Pekka Rinne as a goalie in a fantasy league, I like today's result....never ever play the other guy Trotz, you always play Rinne!

I recall that similar comments have been made about the Wild television commentators. It seems that the opposition commentary of the entire Northwest division is definitely one sided.
I must agree, Rinne all the way.

No the pred clearly deflected the pass which negated the nature of the offside. It's a stupid rule but the correct one.

This is what the linesman interpreted.

Even if a Nashville player did deflect it, in no way should a deflection be called a pass.
But that doesn't matter either, as Duschane must be in the zone at the same time as the pass being made, which he wasn't.

No he does not. It's a bad rule but it is the rule and i am just saying it hit/deflected off the pred and thus became onside even if Duchene was off side.

No rule you have posted shows that the call was correct.
The last rule states clearly that for Duschane to not be offside, he would have had to have been already inside the zone when the pass(deflection) was made. Obviously, he was not.
And that's even if we interpret a deflection as a pass, for which I don't know why we should.

The rule clearly says a pass. There was no pass whatsoever. Even if the ref interpreted it that way, it was wrong, so it was still offside. This isn't complicated. A deflection does not equal a pass in the NHL.

I`m watching on my crappy laptop, but it looks to me like the puck bounces off the ice, not a Pred. Irregardless:
Wikipedia:
Quote:
. If a defending player carries, passes, or otherwise intentionally sends the puck into his defensive zone, any attacking player in the zone is not offside. However, if an attacking player is attempting to shoot the puck into the attacking zone and it deflects off a defending player, an offside violation can still occur.

What I don't understand is how the refs and linesmen don't huddle after the goal and say, "yes that was offside- no goal"
No one would have mocked them for doing so.

If Rinne ever goes down, it's season over for the Preds.
Is there any team more reliant on a single player than Nashville?
(I guess Ottawa at the moment, with Spezza and Karlson out)

How do the Habs have the 4th best win percentage in the league?
Are they for real?
How do they turn it around so quickly?

It's hard to say, but FWIW here are the standings roughly 15 games into last season:
www.nhl.com/ice/standings.htm?date=11/11/2011&season=20122013&type=con
A lot of those teams dropped off soon after. Obviously a hot start will be more beneficial in a short season than in a normal one, but a lot of those teams that were doing well 15 games in were out of the picture by the 40 game mark.

Was this SHUTOUT Monday or something? There were 3 of them plus the one against the Flames. Reimer gets his shutout as the Leafs win 3-0. Budaj plays his second game in a row for the Habs and helps his team win 3-0 over Carolina. It all started with the Flyers hammering the Islanders 7-0. Voracek with 4 assists and Bryzgalov gets the shutout. Nabokob was in the whole game for all 7 goals. The BJs gave it everything they had but the Ducks win 3-2 in reg time and are flying high. Hiller was in net and played well. Shoot out the lights as the Avs hang on for the 6-5 reg time win. I agree with many posters, bonehead missed offside call by the linesmen. Demotion for them, simply brutal and no excuse. Duchesne even admitted that. Ben Bishop was in net for Ottawa in their 2-1 SO win.
