really hard to believe that trampoline and not wrestling is an olympic event. are we sure this isn't as heard on "this is that" or something? This story has those guys written all over it.
It would be a terrible decision to get rid of wrestling, but it's one of the sports that's being considered to fill the spot that it just vacated, so I wouldn't get too upset about it yet.
Here are the 8 sports being considered to replace wrestling:
Baseball/softball
Karate
Roller sports
Sport climbing
Squash
Wakeboarding
Wushu
Wrestling
Out of those choices, wrestling seems like a lock to return. Maybe this is just a publicity stunt to try to get people to pay attention to wrestling at this year's Olympics.

Wait so wrestling can replace wrestling as a sport in the olympics? Interesting...
I never knew those were the events of pentathalon, thought it was all track type events.
I used to think that too, but I was mixing it up with the Decathlon and the Heptathlon, which are all track and field events.

I always mix it up with the biathlon, but that's in the winter Olympics. Regardless of which is which, I'm pretty sure the decathlon is the only "athlon" that anyone cares about.

Yeah, that's why it smells like a publicity stunt to me.

I'd love to see Squash get in the Olympics, but not at the expense of Wrestling, other than that the list is a joke (Baseball has no chance because of the venue requirements).
I met the coach of the Lithuanian modern pentathlon team at the pub during the Olympics in London and had a drink with him. The next day his competitor won gold. I like to think that I somehow contributed to that. I'm sure I didn't, but I like to think it.
It's actually kind of awesome as an event, my only real issue with it is that it's largely a sport for rich Europeans and it's being kept at the expense of a sport that is truly global with little to no barriers to entry.
The IOC must be smoking some ancient marijuana. What are they thinking? What will they get rid of next? Could it be the marathon and the discus and the 100m dash?
