it's doubtful that the new Pope will be more liberal than the old one, Benedict personally appointed a majority of the bishops that will be selecting the next Pope
So...why is it okay for posters to dump all over religion, making all sorts jokes, assumptions and generalizations yet any jokes or "offensive" comments on race or sexuality, or pet s and there owners, are deleted, and posters warned? Mods it's gotta be all or nothing.

Couldn't you have at least waited until someone dumped on religion to make this post? I mean, Flabbibulin served up the bait by mentioning that the Pope may have dementia, and no one even took it.

Fiction and non-fiction are two different things.

Right or wrong, a lot of people think religion is stupid because of the foundation of hypocrisy and lies on which it is built. You can choose not to believe religious teachings that as a grown adult educated in the western world and living in the 21st century you know can't be true. If you choose to believe undefendable fairy tales as though they're true, you open yourself up to criticism.
Race and sexuality are not something you can change in the same way you can choose to believe in rationality versus religion. It's a really bad comparison you made lol.

If that was the standard then we couldn't allow any negative comments about the Vancouver Canucks. Is that a world you want to live in? IS IT!?
I thought it was obvious, but the difference is that race, gender, and sexuality are all things that someone is, while favorite hockey team, political preference, and religion are all things that someone thinks.
In general it's ok to criticize an idea based on what that idea says, but it's not ok to criticize someone just because they're black/a woman/etc.
We don't like it when ideas are irrationally criticized or trolled either (i.e. saying all conservatives are morons or all liberals are morons), but that of course is harder to define and police, because criticism of an idea that a group shares should be allowed if it is supportable/rational/etc.
So threads about ideas (politics, religion, some areas of science) are more difficult to find the line, and doing so can be time consuming and the mods all volunteer their personal time to mod. Spending an hour sifting through a politics or religion thread to figure out "who started it" just isn't reasonable sometimes. But we really don't want to ban those threads entirely. So people should have a thicker skin if they choose to participate in those kinds of threads.
Hope that helps.

Well, they've sure got 'sheep', but I have ask when the last time the Church did anything to provide nourishment?
According to oddsmakers (yes, you can place bets on this), this guy is the early favorite to be the next pope.
IIRC, he was in the race last time as well. I seem to remember a lot of conjecture at the time, that he was most likely to be Pope and then bam, Darth Pope got it.
I nominate this guy. On a side note, I can't believe the church even entertains the notion of the pope resigning. How is that not a major blow to the whole premise of what they believe him to be?
