Well to be contrary is 8 games enough to claim that the best move was a coaching change? Can't have it both ways?
IMO it's a little early for these kinds of threads but it sure looks like the Flames did well in all of their new player acquisitions.

He's cheering against the team winning, isn't the purpose of being a fan of a team quite simply cheering for the team? I'm sorry but I just can't understand how someone could cheer for a team to lose and then call themselves a fan. Just does not make any sense.

Absolutely agree in terms of results. The only thing I can say with absolute certainty is that I enjoy watching this version of the flames far more than the sutter version. It's quite nice playing in the offensive zone and pinning the puck there rather than chasing it around our end of the ice, dumping it in, changing, and repeating.

haha Eddybeers. what a joke.
Would rather the Flames lose so his Pro-Sutter stance looks better.
You know what. Even if the Flames finish below .500 this team already looks better than it has the past 3 years.

The only black mark is re-signing Comeau. Even then it magically turned good because he wanted a 1 year contract instead of 2.

I could do without the Sarich contract, 2M for a 6th/7th D man. And for 2 years. That was a bad one. 1Y, 1.5M I would have been ok with.

Wow. It's amazing what actually watching the games will do, and then comparing it to the boring, frustrating horse crap we watched for the last three seasons.
Remains to be seen if they can keep it up, but this team is controlling the puck more, controlling the play more, creating more offensive chances, being more aggressive in all three zones and most of those improvements are a direct result of the work Feaster has done since taking over.

I was in the "Sutter is not the problem" camp but i'll have to admit that I think I was wrong. The whole team looks like they have a new lease on the game and they also look like they are having fun playing.
Imo Hartley is the biggest addition this year.

Gotta go with the Hudler/Cervenka combo. It's been a treat watching them play.

Sarich goes back a ways with Feaster having played for him in Tampa when they got the cup. GMs sometimes are overly loyal to past players but to me his re-signing is not a big deal. So far he's not as bad as Darryl was with old washed up vets.

7) not re-signing Jokinen

That was a screwed transaction, and I'm glad you brought it up. Jankowski remains a bit of an unknown, but his natural talent makes him worth taking the risk, and truth be told I don't think the Flames are in the position to pass up such a prospect. However, they did trade down, got a second, then picked Sieloff. In some ways, the team got their cake and ate it too. They got a reasonably safe pick (as safe as the draft can be), and a total wildcard.
I truly think Jay Feaster is the MVP of this franchise (this might be premature because good management must translate into winning). I think his greatest asset, and this was evident through the acquisition of Jankowski and Sieloff at the draft, is how he defers and utilizes his staff, and then makes his judgement. It's been interesting observing his managerial style, and how he pulled this team out of the abyss. I think I said this before on this forum, but when he became 'acting' general manager, he took control of a team which was last in the western conference, had the highest payroll in the league, were the oldest team in the league, had the worst pool of prospects to draw from, and didn't have a first or second pick in the draft that year. Though I don't know this for certain, I believe ownership told him to draft a business plan which didn't involve trading Jerome Iginla and Miika Kiprusoff.
The interesting thing is had Jay Feaster blown up the team right then and there, based from the Oilers example, we might not be in any better a position as we were three years ago. He didn't. I'm thankful for that. I think the real reason why I have this irrational loyalty towards Iggy and Kipper, is I had to watch two of the very best teams ever in the history of hockey get gutted. It was not fun to watch my favorite players get traded, and to know the team was not going to improve, it was going to get worse.
To answer the question. The best off-season acquisition occurred a few years ago, when the higher-ups hired Jay Feaster as an assistant GM to Darryl Sutter.

Wideman. That gave us 3 defensemen who can play more minutes instead of just 2 guys. He is also helping TJ Brodie becoming a bonafide NHL defenseman. So, instead of having to Bouwmeester a lot of minutes they able to partner him with Giordano who also plays lots of minutes.
Hudler. Helping Cervenka adjust to the NHL and help him communicate with players. Also with Hudler playing well on RW, Calgary can now rely on 3 scoring lines and 1 energy line. Too bad we have some injuries on two of the Top 9 forwards.
Coach Hartley. It's been great watching the team create offense instead of just sitting back and thinking defense all the time. Also it's nice to see the coaches smiling..not frowning and looking negative all the time.
Asst coach Gelinas.. I think he is helping the team motivates and helping them with the special team plays.

Lots to choose from. Cervenka? Hudler? Sven making the team? Or hos about Hartly and the way he seems to have reenergized some of the personnel such as Bouw and Tanguay?
Thoughs?

Almost 25%? The Flames aren't even 17% through the season yet.
For me, the biggest addition is Hartley.

I think its to early to start hailing Feaster as king yet but the team is more exciting to watch so I will say that the hiring of Hartley has been the best move. I to am excited about Wideman. We have been missing a cannon on the point since Phaneuf and maybe since Mcinnis for one that can hit the net. I also like that Bouw is shooting more. I think he can be successful playing a Phil Housley offensive type of game utilizing a heavy wrist shot since his slap shot is weak.

I guess it depends on why he's cheering against them. While I can a thallus fathom sitting down to watch a game and not start hoping for a win for the Flames, I guess if he honestly believes the team would be better of getting a higher draft pick, and he's able to manage his feelings during the game, I don't think that makes him a bad fan. All depends on his reasons, as long as he truly believes that's what's best, then he's actually hoping for the what he feels is best for the team, and that would make him a fan.

I don't want our new flag to be a solid white flag like the morons up north who are "building something special" through finishing at the bottom of the league over and over and over.
I don't want Flames fans to be Oiler fans and cheer for lottery picks.
