A credit card is a convenience at all places other than online.
I dont mind if they charge a fee, they are just passing the fee along, its not like its some hotel fee they tack on and then they advertise "free wireless internet"
I would prefer to get a discount for paying with cash/debit rather than CC.

A couple things on this...retailers MAY charge UP TO 4% in the states. It could be 0, or 1% or whatever.
Also, the following states don't allow it because of state laws: California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Kansas, Maine, Massachusetts, New York, Oklahoma and Texas. If I lived in any of the other 40 states I would be lobbying for it. I would be surprised if any national retailers did this, but I can see small retailers doing it to try and recoup some $ back.

NM, already answered many times.
Ironically, it's probably the number of rewards cards in consumer's hands that's responsible for the surcharge in the States. From time to time I feel a little guilty using my rewards card as much as I do, but then I fly to Florida on points and forget all about it.

I thought you didn't get points/Air Miles/whatever if you didn't carry the balance into the next pay period?

You are also paying for people who rack up big debts and then get out of most of it with a consumer proposal or bankruptcy

ugh, do not want. I understand it is a cost to retailers, but retailers are already paying for these services to provide to the customer. The customer pays for this by having to pay slightly inflated prices.
Why is my form of money less acceptable than another? Does it not also save the retailer resources by elimitating physical money? The retailer saves time (and money) by not paying an employee to count all the pennies I could have handed to your cashier.
It saves fromemployee theft and miss-counting bills. It's much more difficult to steal liquid assets than physical assets.
Also, do you want customer spending? LOTS of people spend money they don't have thanks to Mr. Credit Card. People just put stuff on their credit card and then worry about it later. Retailers charging a fee on this is absurd. Why don't you charge me for spending money I don't have, on something I don't necessarily need?

Down here we've been assured no one plans to implement this. In my state they can't anyway.
If they did I could see myself geting some hokey prepaid cash card. Why? In the past year, I've had my debit card frozen by Bank of America 4 times due to "suspicious purchases". The first time it happened I was making a $30 purchase and it was declined. I would have to call them and they would verify the last few purchases. After the second time they would call/text before they did it. What was funny is, I went to the bank the first time to show them the message and verify it. They (tellers) kept insisting the bank would never send a message like that and said it was some kind of scam. They really thought I was a complete idiot. On the way out I mentioned it to the manager, who assured me it was legit, which I already knew.A scammer would have to be amazingly good to have the ability to unfreeze my account!
Three months ago I got a message saying one of the merchants I dealt with had had their card info compromised, and that I would be getting a new card in a few weeks.
So it's great that they catch this stuff, but what if they don't, and I'm just too tired or whatever to check my account that day?
So that would be the justification for the prepaid cash card. Credit cards are just much more secure than having a debit card linked to your bank account.

Credit card companies should offer money transfer services for free because its a human right to use a credit card.

I usual find that seeing a single mom with infant waiting for a bus in -30C is more than enough payback for those that pay taxes.

My old RBC Points VISA (Back when the rewards era was just starting) would allocate your points based on your ending balance, but I believe most, if not all, now allocate based on net purchases instead.
Boy was it a pain carrying large balances just to get my $10 worth of giftcards a month.
