Fata me. Guess my lunch hour will be spent on the phone.

On the phone. You basically had to type in your SIN, your street number, and a credit card number to confirm who you were.

You forgot the part where you have to say your postal code 16 times because they think when you say R you mean O.

I've seen a couple class action law suits pop up because of this:

The CBC article refers to this one out of Newfoundland: http://www.buckinghamlaw.ca/class-ac...tion-form.html

Merchant Law in Calgary is also apparently starting one up: https://www.merchantlaw.com/classact...tudentloan.php

SOB my info was taken and I am on the list. Spent most of the day on hold with both credit companies.

Another one in Calgary joined the fray: JSS Barristers.

Any idea what is to be gained by signing up with one of these?

Years of waiting for what will very likely be a very small quantum of damages? In any event, if you are in fact a member of the class, you don't really gain anything by contacting a law firm prior to certification or even resolution of the class action (except being notified of progress etc.)

In any event, I would strongly discourage anyone from being represented by Merchant Law Group. Likely the worst law firm in Canada (they are a "national" firm, but really focused in western Canada, and Saskatchewan in particular.)

I'm in the clear.

I hate that I have to give my SIN over the phone like that, so they can look up if I've been affected.

But in any case, I'm glad my information wasn't taken.

My wife said there was an article in the herald this past weekend about how a lot of people are already being affected with identify theft, from this whole thing.

What a cluster...

Just signed up for a credit report - found two 'soft' inquiries on my credit that I never initiated. Can't use the automated menu to flag my account.

Not sure where to go from here...

Yup, I'm on the list.
Wouldn't of even heard about this if I didn't see it here.

Thanks, Calgary Puck!

So TransUnion says my info doesn't math and I need to submit a written request. Well that's just great!

How long were you on hold before you got through with them?

I used the automated system. Just like Equifax (but it took longer, two minutes of blah blah blah)

this transunion telephone waiting song is killing me.

My information was on that list. I'm trying to get through to transunion and equifax and have been on hold forever.

Is anyone submitting any information for the class action lawsuit(s)?

I haven't looked into the class actions yet. Was hoping I'd get to read someone else's research on them

55 minutes. Twice, because the first time I disconnected instead of hitting speaker phone

"Your SIN number doesn't come up in our database . . .," the lady from HDRC whom I spoke with told me.

And I'm thinking, didn't you have a ####ing backup copy? My god, you lose the only copy of my data?! before she continued . . .

"which means that your information was not compromised."

Phew. Wait, so does this mean I can't get in on this cla$$ action business?
