Dave Nonis to take over?
Nick Kypreos @RealKyper #NHL news: Source saying #Canucks Luongo still very much in the hunt to become a #Leaf despite GM Burke relieved of his duties.

There were rumors of inappropriate conduct possibly involving staff, I wonder if something we don't know about is coming to a head legally or in the public eye.

The bolded part is probably why he got fired. Ownership might have felt that Burke would have added to much payroll ( Loungo), made foolish trades that would help the present and screw the future just to keep his job.

I'd say he's still a top GM in the league, he's done quote well with an embarrassing team. He has made some of the best trades in the league since taking over the Leafs
He'd be a big upgrade in a lot of organizations, he'll be picked up fast

Not strange at all in my mind.
Timing is too pivotal right now to have Burke in control of the ship.

He's got name potential, however, so somebody is going to hire him, probably late in this season or in the summer.

I think this is accurate......it seems that the team and Brian must have different ideas about the direction of the team.
Canadian vs American Players? Luongo? Could be anything.

Then they should of done it before the draft and free agency.

I would think so, makes the most sense. He's already there, pretty seamless transition.
I still don't get why they waited until today. Why not last week or last month or a few months ago? Something must have happened, I can hardly wait to hear all the details.

If he was fired because he was going to make a deal for Luongo....then the leafs are in more trouble than anyone would have believed.
That means non hockey guys are making hockey decisions...and i can point to numerous examples how that always ends in nothing short of failure and often times in catastrophe for the orginization.

Ownership in Toronto basically has its fingers in the pot at all times. Maybe Burke had some leeway at the beginning of his time in Toronto, but if any GM is going to butt heads with ownership to such a degree they would be fired, it'd probably be Burke.

This is odd. I don't think it's about Burke wanting Luongo's contract, I think it's about him not wanting the contract.

You're probably right, but my oh my they should have had some foresight and done it last summer for the exact same reason.

I agree the timing could've been better.
But hindsight being 20/20, they should have fired him after the kessel deal.
