Citizens enter Canada by right. All other may be authorized entry.
Just show the CBSA agent your expired passport. It is still prima facie evidence that you are a Canadian Citizen. Also, a Canadian birth certificate (if you were born in Canada) with another form of government issued picture id would also be sufficient.
Expect to be sent for a few questions, as long as you satisfy the officer that you are Canadian they have to let you in.
