Picked up the Deluxe one today, and Super Mario Bros and Epic Mickey 2 as well. Hooking it up soon.

Ordered mine from Future Shop and got an e-mail Friday night it had been shipped. Never ordered anything from them before, but hoping it shows up at my work tomorrow or Tuesday. Anyone have any experience with Future Shop delivery?

I would expect that Monday morning you check the status and it updates all the way to out for delivery, they are pretty fast.

Picked one up from Walmart this morning. The line had 10 people 15 minutes before the store opened. Far cry from the insane lines at the Wii launch

Range on the controller is excellent. It can do (albeit with lag) ~30 feet, one floor, and through 2-3 walls to where my room is. Lag doesn't kick in until about three walls and/or ~15 feet

Also, Nintendoland is a lot more fun than it looks in the videos

I'd love to see an NHL game where four players can play on the same team using wii-motes and the fifth player is on gamepad as either a coach or another player

Live stream of someone trying to get their Wii U up and running. Showing the Miiverse stuff right now. Servers don't seem to be working yet.

So are these actually available in stores, or is a guy pretty much screwed if he didn't pre-order?

Received my Wii U today at 10AM. Went down to future shop in Deerfoot Meadows and they had a few left...

Damn this work day being so long.

P.S. the controller feels great in the hands...really surprised by this.

Thanks. Might take a flyer on this when I get a chance to get to a store.

Longest system update ever! I think it was something like 7 GB? My kids lost interest after it took almost an hour and a half to download and install!

Once we finally got it up and running, Super Mario is pretty fun. Can play with either the Game Pad or a Wii Remote. A second player can "assist" the first player as he is playing, kind of a neat coop thing.

^ RE the firmware update. Seems rather obvious that you shouldn't do this but . . .

http://www.cbc.ca/news/technology/st...-u-update.html

A firmware update necessary for online gaming takes so long to download that some people are interrupting the process out of frustration — which in turn has led to some media reports of the device being "bricked," or broken irretrievably.

Los Angeles Times reporter Ben Fritz tweeted that when he tried to cancel a lengthy firmware update, he ran into problems. "Wii U has stopped functioning before I managed to play a single game," he tweeted. "I tried to stop an interminable software update and now … nothing. On a related note, anybody in the market for a big black paperweight?"

Played around with the Wii U at futureshop and I was really impressed with the tablet controller. It was comfortable and light...Found it to be a great size. Not sure what it would be like for a child. Mario in HD looks amazing and the sound was great. I hope Nintendo doesn't saturate their game selection with bs titles and decide to stop making good games because I think I want one after having no interest before.

I find it a bit disappointing that the new system won't upscale the old Wii games to HD but the backwards compatibility for games and accessories is fantastic. I have more Wii accessories than I care to admit.

There are also reports that it has already been hacked. Likely just Internet viral crap but it doesn't seem like any system is hack proof...so it's just a matter of time.

For those that picked up a system what are your impressions of the games other than Mario?

It has been hacked in the same way the wii was hacked but only the wii system on it was hacked so not a huge deal.

I played 1 level of mario and then decided to update and that was 4 hours ago. I have 100Mbit internet but my wireless sucks. Nintendo dropped the ball with no ethernet port IMO.

When I went to Futureshop at 6PM at Coventry Hills it looked like they had two systems still available.

Judging from that alone I am sure there will be no shortages like the Wii had.

Well, if an update takes more than 40 minutes, I most certainly would start to wonder if it was doing anything. I would assume that updates should take a few minutes, tops.... at 40 minutes, I'd probably try to restart the process.

Is there not a download progress bar? On most wifi connections, 7gb isn't going to download in 40 mins.

Its not the update that takes forever its downloading the update and during downloading you can power off all you want, its once that update starts to install which takes maybe 10-15 min with an install bar that is constantly moving that you cant touch it. I plugged mine into my UPS because i'm paranoid like that, High River power sucks.

So what are people's thoughts so far? My wife wants one, but I have read some pretty mixed reviews. Some people like it, but others are saying they are disappointed.

I think the step up from the Wii is unacceptably minimal.

In addition, if you don't already have Wii motion plus remotes, or 4 other remotes at all, be prepared to spend a ton of cash just to play something like Nintendoland with friends.

Games like New Super Mario Bros Wii U (that's a mouthful), you've really already played before. AC3 and Batman are direct ports from the other consoles, just with a map on the controller.

I might suggest waiting until they release a Zelda. It's unfortunate that they don't have that big name game at the time of release like they did with Twilight Princess.
