I don't understand why the Red Sox would give up anything close to useful.
Farrell is at best as good as a dozen other guys out there right now.
It is good to hear that the ridiculous Bard and Bucholtz names aren't being tossed around but even the names in the DJF article above seem like more than I would give up.

If the Jays get anything of value of a player or prospect it's a good move. They've got all the leverage here, hopefully they use it

Ya, I haven't seen anything from Farrell that makes me tag him with "must keep". He could blossom into a better manager in time, but with almost the entire team outside of Morrow and EE having down years, its a good time to make a change.
Not sure who they will put in his place, but Cito Gaston is always around

There's about 15 possible managers out there that I'd view as equivalent to Farrell or better than him. He's only significant to Boston because he was there before as the pitching coach.

Rumour has Shaun Marcum potentially thinking about coming back to the Jays. We'll see though - his comments seemed more like friendly comments to a local (I believe) radio station.

I think that's the only source in terms of the rumors of him coming back. He has a ton of friends on the team still, he was really close with everyone and the move would make sense for both sides. I think Marcum ends up a Bluejay and would be great to have on the back end of that rotation.

Yeah, the only risk in letting Farrel go to Boston is that he might be able to get Lester back on his game. But really, the Red Sox are so different now from when he was there. Lester, Bucholz, Pedrioa, Ellsbury, Bard, and Ortiz if he returns are the only significant players Who were there when he was. If you can get something, get it and than hire Tim Wallach because he was my favorite player as a kid.

And if the Red Sox hadn't hired Bobby Valentine, his name would likely be in the "dozen" other guys. But they did, and it was a disaster.
The Sox are an organization which doesn't want to have anything remotely resembling that happen again. They'll pay a price IMHO for someone they consider to be a good fit on their team.

The reason Farrell looks so good to Boston now is because they hired Valentine last year.

I don't know there were a ton of red flags and people saying it was a bad hire before the season started. I think for a majority of teams that Valentine would not have been in that group.
You may be right that the Red Sox would pay a price but that is because they have shown themselves to be morons over the past 1.5 years. There are plenty of guys they could get that would be good fits and not cost a ridiculous amount.

Wonder who the Jays get back. Glad the circus is over. Soured on Farrell a long time ago and his desire to go back to Boston for what seems like some time now.

Hope the Jays got a good piece in return, and now to wonder who will be the Jays manager begins.

My expectations are really low foe the return, only because compensation for a manager is never going to be high. It should be announced in the next few days who the Jays got in return according to Twitter

I caught a snippet somewhere that Farrell wanted to drop Omar midway thru the year. AA said no. Anyone have any info there?

Source: In John Farrell trade, it appears one player will go in *each* direction. So #RedSox will get a player from #BlueJays too.

Makes sense. You can't trade a manager for a player so the Jays have to send a player along with Farrell.

This is good news. Farrell was not an overly good manager, about on par with most of the crappy managers we had between Cito the first time around and now.
I'd be hoping that Roberto can convince his bro to come north to be our next manager. Either that or someone like Chad Mottola or Sal Fasano if we go internally.

Source: Player going from #RedSox to #BlueJays was a major leaguer in 2012.

Any guesses who it is?
