Honestly, I never thought they intentionally ripped you off...I just thought that they were bad at math.

24 cans = $2.40
$2.40 X 20 = $44.00
They can't rip you off if you know how to do simple math.

You better watch out next time you're returning cans.

I keep my blue bin just outside my door in the backyard. The other day when I was going to work in the morning I noticed someone in my backyard. It was a chinese guy who was going through my blue bin. Being that it was 7 am and sometimes I am not the happiest camper in the morning I told him to get out of my yard because he was trespassing. He said something to me in Chinese and jumped on his bike and rode off.

I also visit the Money Back Container Shack. I have often wondered about their ethics, but I can be bothered to count them myself.

Ha ha, Lazy has nothing to do with it. apathy, maybe... I used flat them all prior to taking them in, but i found the flats a pain in the ass for storing and transporting in my car.
I value my time now much more than the money i'd get from the cans. I will take the time to donate them to a good cause though. Thats why i donate them to vecova.

Seriously, it needs to be repeated; RougeUnderoos is just awesome. His delivery of subtle humor cracks me up everytime. And then seeing people take his posts at face value, as they make fun of him or respond with a serious post, just makes it that much better.

ha ha, if that was intentional, that was a well thought out and very subtle joke. hilarious! lets be honest though, does anyone other than him really know if he's joking? maybe he's just really bad at math.

Apparantly you aren't familiar with CP's best poster. I'll give you half an hour to go over some of his posting history, and then report back to me.

I've had a similar conversation with my wife about this topic on a weekly basis. First off, I'm a blue binner. We don't consume a lot of alcohol or pop so it would involve hoarding cans for most of the year before we get anything back.
My issue is the Chinese lady who lives on the corner of our street that goes through the bin. She never makes a mess nor is she especially rude. For whatever reason the fact her house is massive annoys me. I can't find a logical reason for this to bug me. I'm putting the cans out, which clearly means I don't care about them. She's not homeless so I can make a reasonable assumption the money isn't being spent on anything nefarious. Still bugs me and I can't quite pinpoint it. My wife's vote is a deep-seeded racism that I refuse to acknowledge.

The subtle joke was the purposeful miscalculation? But why would the other posters want to edit their responses? Responding to a joke, knowingly or unknowingly, with a joke doesn't seem that outrageous.

Never said it was outrageous, just poking fun at them for missing Rouge's joke. Not a big deal.

The City of Calgary imposed its recycling fee on us without any idea how much money would be gathered in refundables. Since its inception, the fee has actually dropped. How much of that is due to people giving away refundables? Rhetorical question, really, because I don't care. I refuse to give my money away to a government that's already charging me for the privilege.
The only exception to the above is $0.20 glass items ... e.g. wine bottles... because the mass-for-money ratio is way too high for me to bother taking them to the depot, and it's as likely as not that it'll get broken (and therefore unrefundable) in the City's truck anyhow

Who said I missed it? I was playing up to it. There was a reason for my whistling smiley. Whether Rouge was joking or not was irrelevant to what I posted.
Not that it matters, just think it's interesting that you felt it worthwhile to even bring up the issue..

Same idea for us.... We had just been putting them in blue bin, but now our 5yr old loves his piggy bank and putting more money into it.
Along with any change I leave lying around.... Will find its way to the son's PB.

I take them to the depot. who cares if they rip me off? If they ripe off ten cans, that's only $1. That's worth it to me to not have to count all of the bottles. I'll still get the $20-$40 for going to te depot. I can get a jug of milk, some cereal, eggs and some steaks with that. That's worth it to me and my family.

People get ripped off by the bottle depot?
When the guy counts mine, I count along with him and never has any of them ever made a mistake. Maybe they realize that I am doing it, so they dont cheat, but I doubt it.

I'm another one who leaves them out for the homeless. I'd like to claim it's because I'm a nice guy, but it's actually mostly because I'm too lazy to go to the bottle depot for a few measly bucks.
