full time in HNA, part time in NCHL & AllCal... plus some shinny here and there... not sure why my wife complains about the amount of hockey I play...

I was surprised at how much it grew on me over the years...now, many many years later I haven't played ice in about 8-10 years but have been playing ball hockey steadily throughout that time frame.

I still look at ice hockey fondly, I just find that you can get the same high level of competitiveness (or casual) as well as the high enthusiasm for beers after just as easily. I love the fact that it is cheaper, way less prep time before games and how it is actually played a bit differently. I think ball hockey is a lot faster transition wise than ice...and slower top end speed. The way ice vs ball play is different, but similar enough that if you enjoy one, you will enjoy the other.

If some of you are wondering about it...check it out. It is great fun!
I played ball hockey for a few years before returning to ice and couldn't disagree more. Ice is way better, and worth the additional cost plus it had more games. I will be paying 600 this year for 30 games plus playoffs, ball was I think about 200-300 for 20 games. $200! For ball hockey... that is crazy to me. I at least mentally think of the 600 as paying the zamboni driver and maintaining a rink, which would be way more costly than... no cost associated with a floor. Like I could just go to the road and play ball hockey if I needed to.

It is easier to make plays in ice and best of all the majority of guys you play against are not insane lunatic sticks everywhere all over the place cut your face open death match losers. The guys who played ball hockey in that CBHA league took it insanely serious. One time things got a bit heated on the floor or whatever and the guy came into our dressing room flailing his stick around asking to fight after the game. I also almost lost an eye because people can't keep their sticks down / don't have basic hockey sense. There were guys looking to brawl every game! It was ridiculous.

Also playing in ball hockey you shoot from center and the ball curves so it's basically more difficult a shot than in close. I played in all divisions, and in the higher ones it was like ping pong. Anyway, just my opinion of course!
