- Watching them hoist the new South African flag. It's not every day you see a new country born.

- Mississippi Burning - the scene when the black guy slowly and meticulously describes what it's like to have your scrotum slit with a razor blade, all while brandishing one in front of the perp's nose.

- Twin towers falling. Didn't expect that.

  • M*A*S*H* - The scene when Radar comes into the operating room and says Blake's plane has crashed. The reactions of the entire cast was phenomenal.
  • Private Ryan - The opening scene was stunning, but there is a scene later on where this tank comes flying over a mound straight at you. The was one of the first movies I think I saw at one of the newer larger theatres. I thought that tank was going to land on my lap, and it is the first time I have actually let a startled yelp out at a movie.
  • Poltergeist: My mother took a friend and I to that for my twelfth birthday. We were too cool to sit with her, so we sat a couple of rows in front. By the end of the clown and tree scene we had scurried back beside her.
  • Lost: the guy getting sucked into the jet engine.
  • Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade: when Papa actually calls him "Indy", and tells him to let it go.
  • Shawshank: When the warden opens the Bible.
  • The Green Mile: The execution.
  • Independence Day: the city blasts, and the corny speech from the president.
  • Saw: the final scene, and the various puzzles.
  • Touched By An Angel: Not sure of the episode, but Wynnona was the mother of a terminally ill boy. The end where he dies while she is singing got me good.

Going by recent memory I can remember only two movies where my heart actually felt sick, that wrenching feeling...

The Hart's War: When Bruce Willis died

Ladder 49: When Joaquin Phoenix died

I don't watch much TV so I cant comment on that.

I'm very surprised no one has mentioned 24 yet.

************SPOILER ALERT FOR FIRST SEASON OF 24!!!!*******************

For me, it's when Jack discovers that Nina shot his wife and she's dead. Wow, that scene stunned me for a good while. I just sat on my chair for like 10 mins after the credits rolled.

The end of the most recent 24 season where jack puts on the sunglasses. This was the most recent I can remember.

Movies

Silence Of The Lambs- In my mind the best movie scene of all time. When we see the FBI and then Starling in 2 different places, both ringing the door bell, then the whole night goggles thing scared the hell out of me.

Not as good as the first at all but In Red Dragon, the scene when the kid goes in to make popcorn and Edward Norton then see's the broken mirror.

The Matrix Reloaded, last scene was pretty intense, the whole Neo-Smith fight was pretty sweet.

TV

Cheers and the Wonder Years have already been mentioned.

So I'd turn to Michael Moore's speech at the oscars and watching the news during 9/11 stands out in my mind.

Brad Pitt getting smoked by a car in Meet Joe Black. That scared the crap out of me.hehehe
Also Brad Pitt receiving Gwenyth Paltrows head in 7.

Oh and Alien!!!! My stupid uncle comes over from Toronto when i was like 7 years old and tells me to go watch this 'new' star wars movie with him. It was the first time i ever heard people screaming in the theater when that alien burst out of his chest! I was forever changed.

TV:

The Sopranos: In the last season when Adriana finally gets what everyone saw coming for two years. Just the whole scene with her driving thru the woods with Silvio, then she starts crying because she knows its comin, then the car stops......and she starts beggin for her life. That one really got to me.

The Shield: The Very end of Season 2 when the Strike Team has all of the Money Train money that they robbed off the Armenians and they are just starin at the money, then they look at each other and realize what they just did. They realized that they crossed the line

Movies:

Reservoir Dogs: "Torture you, thats a good idea, I like that!!...........See, its amusing to me....to torture...............................STAY STILL YOU FATA!!!!"...........Mr Blonde in one of the most painful scenes that I have ever had to watch.

Goodfellas: The music montage scene with all of the bodies from the Lutansa Heist popping up in garbage cans, frozen trucks etc.........The music was the piano part from Eric Clapton's Layla..............PERFECT.........My fav movie

Scarface: The chainsaw in the washroom scene where the dude cuts off the guys arm..then says to Tony, "Now the leg huh???"..........all the time, blood is sprayin all over Tony Montana as he has to watch his friend be butchered.

Crash: This just came out recently and it honestly probably in my top 5 movies of all time, I loved it...........but the scene where the Iranian shop owner goes to shoot the Hispanic Locksmith and then the little daughter of the locksmith jumps right in front of the gun right when the guy fires it........the 10 secons after that I was in complete shock................GO see this movie if you havent yet.

nah...

best futurama's are the parallel universe one, "all's well that roswell", "amazon women in the mood", "crimes of the hot", "how hermes got his groove back" ("i am bender baby, please insert liquor!"),...

why did they have to cancel that show, sigh...

another tv moment was from "space above and beyond" when their CO was focused on for an episode, as he risked it all to take out one enemy hotshot in a prototype fighter that was slaughtering his pilots. unforgettable episode, a true building of drama for the kill.

Local Hero: Quite a few moments in this movie still do that to me, even if it is a little dated now. Mark Knoppfler's awesome music, great Scottish scenery, Northern Lights scene (It's gone red all over!!!!), final scene where Mac has to return to his cold apartment in Houston, pins up photos from Furness, looks at his seashells, and then you see/hear the phone ringing in the only phone box in the Scottish village. (It's making me shiver just writing about it.) One of my all time favourite movies.

The Dish: The Moon landing scene and the awe-inspired reactions of the people watching. On that theme,

Apollo 13: The moment when the capsule came through the atmosphere and could not communicate. The reactions of the people waiting to see if they survived and their reactions afterwards.

Besides that I have to agree with: About a boy, Shawshank, Wonder Years, Sports Night (absolutely amazing TV show), Master and Commander, Casablanca,

Last scene of Blackadder, the WWI season. (good call on that one, octothorp. Extremely poignant moment for a comedy.

Cinderella Man - pick any fight, they were amazing. See this in the theatre.

Rushmore - Several scenes

Biggest shivers? Finally being able to fly home and attend a Flames playoff game in the 3rd round. When the lights went out, it was surreal.

agreed, I made the same decision, it was one Christmas or summer or break or something, I was on a renting movies kick (I get them from time to time when I just rent a bunch of movies one after the other, rare, usually happens when I'm bored for an extended period of time).

I saw it in the store, thought "Jennifer Aniston's in this... no thanks" I ~hate~ Friends, avoid it and all the actors where ever possible.

Then one of the movies I rented had a funny trailer for Office Space (I always watch the previews, when watching a DVD I'll watch the preview for THAT movie before I watch the movie, haha)

I decided to take a chance, since then I've been sharing the weath of one of the greatest, if not the greatest comedy of all time!

Can't beleive I forgot this one.. but the Kiss at the End of a Rainbow scene in A Mighty Wind. It was even better when they re-did it at the Oscars later that year.

A couple more TV ones. King of the Hill, when Hank's truck starts to die and Bobby helps him get a new one, Hank finally decides on one and they both tear up thinking about the old one and Bobby yells out "I love this truck!"

Also from king of the Hill. The first episode of last season, the Hills go to Montana to visit Peggy's old farm which her parents are forced to sell. Peggy is letting her mom down at every turn and wonders what was the point of the trip. Hank points Bobby out to Peggy, who is high up on a hill perched atop a horse he has learned to ride.. a very good Bobby turning into a man type thing.

I was up late last night and I came across "Tour of Duty" on the history channel, I had forgotten how good that show was, and it was a shame it only lasted three years.

Great moments from "Tour of Duty"

Becker, one of the soliders with a real streak of humanity accidently kills a young girl and because of guilt spirals into drug use, and then goes AWOL. The episode where he goes through withdrawl is pretty heart wrenching stuff

The ending episodes where they attempt to free the prisoners of a POW camp, and one soldier goes blind, the helicopter pilot gets shot through the leg, one older soldier gets shot up was an amazing piece of T.V. film making, and how these young men deal with the war when they get home was done really well.

In the first episode where thier fire base gets over run showed the terror of warfare.

Probably one of the best war based T.V. series ever made.

Pay it Forward -

When Trevor is stabbed after defending his friend from the bullies. The subsequent scene where Eugene and Arlene find out the doctors can't save him and the candle vigual begins with the cast. I bawled like a baby and was an emotional wreak after watching that.
haha that movie screwed with a friend of my head. we finished watching it and he said "man, im gonna pay it forward" and he did. living downtown he always ran into homeless people and gave them money but he decided that wasnt enough so he let a hobo stay in his appartment, gave him food , booze and whatever he wanted, and felt good about it all. sadly the hobo did not see pay it forward and ended up robbing his house. hehe now he hates the movie.

but for movies last of the mochicans, when the girl jumps from the cliff, loin king "dad ?; wake up dad" and braveheart when william sees his wife in the crowd before he dies, the smile when he knows hes gonna see her again. man why cant i find love like that again.
