You could charge money but they'd probably still pay it. Unless it was $20 r something but then you drive away good people who don't care enough to pay.

Fair enough. He is off the radar a lot. One second he's fine and then he just straight up goes off the rocker.

Flip, second chances are fine... But they should take their time out then ask to come back. I have no problem with you or puckluck being back but both of you should have returned under your old usernames.

Harsh limits of what a new user could curb trouble that a banned poster does.
I would think that coming back under a new user name would give someone a fresh start and a chance to prove to the mods that they didn't make a mistake. To me it's a better way than having to deal with all the negitive comments and jabs that would be thrown thier way upon returning had they kept thier original user name.

To actually Address your op, I don't know what to do. Perhaps more sin bins? I know there is no set amount to get you banned but I'd be curious how many people usually get. Instead of kicking them out right away just give them a month or two sin bin. Some people will never learn though and still get banned.

I also think one chance is enough. I can't see myself coming back should I ever be banned again.
Weren't you banned for your post about Newfies under your current username and then allowed to return? Or was that changed to a sin-binning? I seem to remember it said lifetime suspension for a bit and everyone was commetning, saying you had been banned again.

I've been here under a new name for like 7 years after my last account got banned I think.

So second chances are fine, but I agree that its getting rather annoying. I pretty much stay out of the FOI section because of it.

One of the issues, too (although there's nothing we can do about it now, as the damage is done) is the fact that after a few high profile posters got banned and returned, we all started openly talking about it, and the fact that you could get banned and return under a new name without issue became common knowledge.

Now every dolt that acts like **** and gets banned, just waits a week and then signs up again. So there techinically is now no such thing as getting banned from Calgarypuck.

So not only do we get all the idiots back right after they're banned, but they also act more trollish and stupid than they used too, because they no there's no real consequence.

I'm about 99% sure they can check the IPs. I'd imagine it is a lot of work though. How many new members do we get every day?

Better yet, have a ban list of IPs. Once banned, you can't even lurk on some other forums.

I think more sin bins should be handed out. Some people will wake up after a month or two sin bin. Others will not, and then a perma-ban of their IP is appropriate.

Regardless, they're not allowed at band practice anymore.

I'm no computer genius, but can't you just release and renew your ip anytime you want?

The only way to deal with these losers is to burn their houses down, with them inside. That'll perma-ban their asses.

And Iginla is puckluck? What a shame. I liked puckluck. Iginla, not so much.

I don't recall this specific event, but what happens quite often is we forget to make the change in the software. When we ban somebody it gives us the "Ban user" option, and then a time frame. The forum software was designed for only one type of ban, but we added the distinction between permament and temporary bans. With permamant being the default, it sometimes gets picked; and then we change it after.
