I'm saying don't report the first hail until after hail season just in case your car is hit in 2 different storms then you claim it as one claim

She put a claim in after storm 1 and took the cash and by doing that had to sign a waiver waiving hail coverage on that vehicle at all so when she got hit harder in storm 2 she got nothing for it where as she would have got a bigger cheque covering both storms (of course you don't mention its from 2 storms) if she waited.
Edit: As FKA mentioned above if you prove you repaired the vehicle you can get the waiver removed.

no the form you sign is hail damage to the entire vehicle. You get damage to the hood and take a cash settlement, hail damage is excluded from all areas of the vehicle. So if the next storm hits the roof, the roof is not paid as hail damage is excluded.

Heard a couple of pings from the hail last night, when the storm first started, and managed to get the car in the garage without any damage.
I had a couple of old cars, worth about $1000. a piece, back in the 80's that got heavily damaged with hail. The insurance company came up and gave me a cheque for $2000. to settle the claim and I got to use the cars for several more years.

Thats nice when that happens because your car is technically written off but you can keep driving it because its only cosmetic damage and they don't have to de-register it.

Bought a vehicle on Saturday, went to pick it up on Monday. Effin hail damage. It's all pretty minor dings and the dealer will fix it, but what a piss off.

Well that's just to get in for an estimate. Who knows how long it will take to get the work done.

I think this is terrible advice.

Why would you accept a pre-damaged vehicle?

I honestly didn't know it was damaged until everything was signed. Obviously should have looked at it first, dumb on my part. My frustrations were made clear and I will be picky as hell when they fix it. They are barely noticeable though.
Also after shopping for a car for my mother and myself I am amazed the car industry is still a float. So many fataing idiots.

I would NEVER accept that on the purchase of a new vehicle. The fact that they didn't disclose it to you before signing is grounds for the agreement to be voided.
Tell them you expect a new vehicle with no damage at all (or negotiate a STUPENDOUS discount).

It's very simple, you are not getting the car you signed on the dotted line for. If they don't like it, give them a "slightly damaged" payment, meaning lower.

Why is it terrible advice? How much is your time worth to you? You have 1 year to claim that damage. If you want to get it fixed right now, sure it is terrible advice. Personally, I would wait until the end of hail season and put in my claim instead of having to do it in a few weeks if another storm pounds your car and having to pay another deductible.

Because you don't want to give your insurance company ANY reason to delay your claim or attempt to invalidate said claim. Does not matter what is technically correct or not. Get your claim in ASAP.
In 2010 my insurance company used every trick they could think of to get out of replacing my roof, and also tried to low ball me on my car. Biggest mistake you can make is assuming your insurance has your best interest at heart. No they are not all bad, but don't take any chances, get in the cue.

I'm not that upset about it, if it's fixed back to normal, I'll be fine with it. It's a used car, not a new one.
