Nice write up in the Herald on the game.
Any chance of porting it to Android?

Yes, very good chance. Working on the details currently. Although some firms have reported as high as 80% piracy on it as of late, so will have to explore some options.

Piracy on Android is that high? Some of the protection schemes employed are pretty foilable if someone is desperate to save a couple of bucks.
Do you guys do much Android dev? I am looking to do some for personal interest. Wondering if everybody uses the same IDEs and everything. Any tips for designing nice GUIs?

are the piracy differences between Android and iPhone (jailbroken) that high? i pay for all the apps i use on my S2, because honestly it's a pain in the ass to find clean apps through "other" methods. also buy purchasing the apps that gets me automatic updates, and i really have no qualms spending a dollar or two on something. whereas my friend with his jailbroken iPhone is the complete opposite, he hasn't paid for a single app and has tons of games loaded on his phone

Now that the game has the sweet aroma of Victor Lucas all over it there's nowhere to go but straight to the top.

We generally have partners do our Android dev. I can't confirm whether or not piracy rates are in fact that high, but given that Rovio made Angry birds free with ads I think that says a lot. Apparently the way to go on Android is ads and inapps or so I have been told by people in the know.
As for IDE, I suspect Intellij would be nice and I think our OTW dev used Eclipse. As far as designing nice GUI's, that is a broad question but my short answer would be: Keep it simple. Also, hire a great designer (like KTrain).

Angry Birds Space has a free (ad supported) and a paid version, along with Rovio's new game Amazing Alex. same with Cut The Rope, with the paid version having over 1 million downloads
a lot has changed with Android over the last few years (since the original Angry Birds was released), Google has made great strides in making their Play market more secure and the userbase has become far more mature. when you can release a free and paid version of your app side-by-side, and over a million people pay for the ad-free version, that says something

I think I read somewhere Rovio actually made even money between the ad-supported and the paid versions back in early 2011, but with the growth rate of Android and the new paid versions that might be different now.

i have no problems with companies releasing both a free and paid version of their apps (i'll always pay the dollar to get rid of the ads), but what bugs me is that Rovio never made a paid version of the original Angry Birds. they've changed their tune now with their newer games, but it still irritates me that if i want to play the classic i have to disable data on my phone to avoid the in-your-face ads

Really?
http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology...?newsfeed=true
How does an estimated 9:1 to 70:1 piracy rate reflect userbase maturity?

The way I see it, people who are going to pirate are going to find some way to get their apps for free regardless of platform and won't buy the apps if they can't hack it (This should be true especially at the $1 price points some of these games go for). A free ad-supported app model at least allows the developer the flexibility to make money off this group of people.
