So, the only alternative to 30* weather is -30*?

2 weeks? More like 3 days.

I used to dread these temperatures in my top floor unairconditioned apartment, but since moving to a house with central air, I absolutely love this weather. This is what the entire summer should be like, I always feel ripped off when we get +13 and rain in July.

Bingo. I was thinking of this the other day; the comment I often hear that "you only need A/C in Calgary 10 days of the year." Setting aside that I find I use the A/C more than that, for me the big thing is that now the 10 best weather days of the year are enjoyable. This is weather that I spend thousands of dollars to go visit in the winter; why not also enjoy it in the comforts of my own home.

I went golfing on the weekend in the peak of the hot weather. Had a few beers and enjoyed the game, then came home and cooled off. After a while I went outside again and enjoyed the evening.

This is why I don't really like going to ridiculously hot places on vacation.

I burn very easily. Last time I went to Mexico, it looked like somebody had beat with a baseball bat, all blistered up and red. Just awful, worst vacation experience ever.

Anything over 25 sucks for me.

Yes, I am funny that way. When there is a problem with an obvious solution, I have a bad habbit of using that obvious solution.

What's the problem? Can't afford to hook up AC to your palatial estate that dwarfs Fernando Pisani's place?

Well you don't have to belong to a super secret club to buy an air conditioner.

Even my cats have their own air-conditioner in their private quarters.

I for one despise this heat. I do my best to keep it quiet because I hate people who complain about the weather. For those wondering, I find +30 days far more uncomfortable than -30 days. I find on a -30 day I can at least do something about it, but on a +30 I'm basically totally hooped. I bought a standalone $500 AC unit a few years ago and love it dearly, but my wife takes issue with it sounding like a jet engine and can't sleep when it's on.

Thermostat said 90F in my bedroom before I went to sleep last night. Sure is beautiful outside. If we had this weather for 2 months straight, either we'd all be used to it, or we'd have A/C in our houses. It's not quite the same when you get sporadic patches of hot weather because you can never acclimatize to it. I think that is the majority of Calgarians problem with this weather.

That was one of the reasons I upgraded from a standalone A/C to central air. It's nice to not have to worry about the noise. The other reasons include the security of not having windows open, and having thermostatic control.

I also like the fact that I can make the choice to have windows open or not. Neighbours have an bunch of friends around the fire pit at 11:30 when I want to sleep? Easy solution- open the windows and turn on the A/C. Also if there is a lot of pollen or other allergens in the air; I don't have to pick my poison.

This also seems like a good place for a shameless plug that Flames Gimp has a powerful used A/C unit for sale over in the Buy & Sell forum.

I totally can't afford it!!! I think CP should help a brother out and start a fund raising drive to help me install central air conditioning into my house! My dog and kids thank you!

Not necessarily. Ours is so old it is a dial, not digital..... unless of course you meant changing the entire thermostat to a current model.
