Was at the game and I have to say that drew Tate looked pretty bad, and his height might be a issue for him making reads.

The defense was awesome and won us the game.

Tate did not look impressive today - thought he had some good short yardage throws, but seemed to misread the defense on the 20+ passes.

D was awesome and MTL / AC looked completely lost.

What the hell is up with loser Saskatchewan fans coming to our games. It doesn't even involve your team, in there ruder gear getting pissed drunk. One of them was humping a old lady.

^ 20+ passes? only 10 were incomplete, not to mention couple of drops.

He looked fine imo. Really the only bad throw was Anderson int, he really forced that one. The other int, he just didn't get enough air under the ball and got double coverage.

Someone in my section kept cheering for Burris whenever Tate and the offense had the ball

Not sure what your expectations are for Tate -- 25 for 30 for 400 yards and 3 TD's? In the first game of the season against the defending Grey Cup champs, I'd say he did all that could be expected. A rookie will lock onto the first read and either hold on to the ball, force the throw, or take off running if that guy isn't open. Tate is clearly past that -- you could see him make his progressions and buy some time in the pocket to find the safe stuff underneath if the first/second read wasn't there.

Agreed he had some throws batted down but he was able to complete passes down the middle so I don't think his height is an issue. And mis-read on 20+ passes? If Dickenson said that I would believe it. Otherwise, I don't know how you can tell me what the "correct" read was on each of the 35 pass attempts (of which 25 were completed?).

Will be interested to see how the offence progresses throughout the season -- we saw a lot of mis-direction and underneath stuff today (thought Dickenson called a good game), but once teams can study that on tape, they'll have to be able to show they can stretch the field as well outside (i.e. with Forzani). Other than the first interception, I think the only other throw downfield was to Lewis in the endzone that was just a little long. Tough throw though as he was fading backwards against the rush and throwing into the wind.

EDIT: Whoa, totally forgot about BC and Lulay winning it last year. There goes my credibility

First of all Montreal is not the defending champion, they didn't even make it to the final.

Secondly he didn't play very good, the interceptions where poor reads, he fumbled to snap AGAIN, which cost us in the playoffs last year. He also laid on the ground with the football when he could have gotten up.

I don't think Tate will last long.

The snap was wide, and staying on the ground was the right play. He has no idea who is behind him when he recovers the ball, and getting up could easily result in a fumble and a TD the other way. We have gotten angry at Burris for years for making stupid plays like that. Tate made the right play and kept us in position to put 3 points on the board. Luckily, Montreal took a stupid penalty and kept the drive alive.

I think Tate has looked great. He is a young guy and will take time to develop, but I think he can be our QB for years.

The turnovers are very frustrating because that's the one difference I thought would be the big difference between Henry and drew. Henry was the big turnover machine and Canada day he would start his interception parade, and Tate starts off the same way.

Last year I gave him a pass, but he's turned the ball over 7 straight games with fumbles and interceptions. It's like he studied Henry on how to fumble, and chuck it into double and triple coverage.

You obviously have a huge bias against Tate for whatever reason (man-love for Burris?), but he had a really solid game. The only thing I'm worried about Tate is injuries.

P.S Tate > Burris

I have to disagree with PeteLFan and CaramonLS regarding the play of Drew Tate. He wasn't spectacular but he did his job and I thought he played well except for those 2 INTs. He made some nice throws and there are some that receiver dropped the ball. Landan Talley was brutal at the beginning dropping Tate's 8th throw. I don't think we will forget Rambo the way Talley is playing so far including the pre-season. I am hoping to see McDaniel more than Talley or even Parker but both players did not play. It is the first game and I am still in a wait-and-see what Drew Tate can do but i am good with his first game. I am sure he'll keep improving as the season goes.

Wasn't that only like Tate's 5th ever CFL start? People need to be realistic & patient with him, there's obviously going to be a learning curve, especially at QB. To expect him to just come in and immediately outshine a Grey Cup & multiple MOP winner in Burris is a little silly.

That second pick was bad, he's going to make mistakes, especially at this point in his CFL career. But over-all I was quite impressed what I saw out of him. As already mentioned, you could tell he wasn't just locking down on his primary receiver and then panicking if he was covered, but instead was going through his progressions and calmly hitting the undeneath guy if his primary wasn't open. He bought time with his feet too, saw on a few occasions where the pocket collapsed and he managed to move around and still find an open man, I was (mostly) impressed with Tate yesterday. Should only get better as the season goes on and gets more comfortable.

And how bout that Stamps D, holding the Als offence to only 10 points?? Very impressive.

Exactly! We are going to have to be patient and live through the mistakes that Tate is going to make. Look at any QBs stats from the NFL or CFL and most of them are filled with INTs at the beginning of their career. Just look at BC. Lulay went through the exact same thing and look at where he is now.

I'd much rather win 8-9 games with Tate this year then 11-12 with Burris and have his annual early exit from the playoffs.

Boy did Montreal ever look awful, I can't remember AC ever playing that bad. Perhaps he is finally on the downswing.
Like someone else said, the front 7 on D played amazing, lots of stuffs on 1st down running plays really put the Mtl offence on the back foot. Very impressed by that.
I think Tate played ok, not great but well enough. I'm sure he'll improve as the year goes on, and as long as Cornish keeps pounding away it should take pressure off him.

Overall I was pleased by how the Stamps played, but more surprised by how bad Montreal was.

I'm not sure how I'm in love with Burris, I wanted him benched in favor of Tate last year and believed Burris was done. I don't even know how Burris won the MOP. Seems he was more concerned being a MOP then playing the right way.

People who are harping on Tate need to have some patience IMO.

A few years ago, watching Lulay play was good for a laugh because most of the time he looked like a bag of smashed arseholes out there.

Now he's reigning MVP and defending Grey Cup Champ.

Give the kid a chance. He's got smarts, athletic ability and loads of potential IMO.

There will be growing pains, but he'll be real good IMO.

Completely disagree. He had a couple bad throws but it's been a long time since the stamps could make plays past the first read. After so many years of Burris you come to expect bad things if the first read isn't there. He's not perfect but we are a much better team right now.

Have you ever played football or even watched football before this season? You just sound stupid!
