They have them at Home Outfitters right now and I like the idea better than a portable air conditioner because of the way my windows are set up, it's trickier for me to put a vent hose out (I'd have to keep the blinds wide open which means glaring sunlight heating up the condo).
Plus, they look cool and can be cleaned easily. Looks as though they throw a lot of air around. I can keep the blinds closed and have this blasting air drawn from the outside through the condo to my back door. Thoughts?

From the reviews I read online they do not throw a lot of air around. In fact, they suck.
Conventional fans have actually improved quite a bit over the last few years. Spend $50 or so on a good one and you should be set. They are more powerful and compact than they used to be.

From walking past those Dyson Air multipliers in the store, I would say that they aren't as powerful as a fan that costs 1/10th of the price.
Basically, they are REALLY expensive cool looking fans.
I was holding a open house 2 weeks ago when it was a million degrees and was excited to see one of these.... I was thoroughly disappointed.... your paying for style if you ask me. The air didnt seem to blow further than a foot in front of the damn thing.

Very popular in Vancouver at most bars. Those are far superior to any other hand drying system. Work incredibly fast, no paper to throw out, and don't have to touch anyone else's wet handle/button.
I'm sure they must have these at some places in Calgary too. If not, they're on the way.

I've seen a few places with the Air Blades as well, Although I think I still like the Xlerator dryers. If its not an air blade or an Xlerator, I take the paper towel option if they are available. I'm not going to standing there for a minute trying to get my hands dry.

The Dyson doesn't do much, especially when you live on the fourth floor of a condo building. Ceiling fans also don't really seem to do the trick either. My advice is to just battle through the heat for two months, its Calgary and its bound to start getting cold here sometime soon.
I ended up getting a portable ac unit. Doesn't fit my window and I've had to take my screen out to get it to work. I now have a piece of cardboard blocking off the rest of the window so bugs don't get in. That being said probably the best thing I've bought in the last 5 years. It's so nice to sleep in a cool room.
Get the AC...even just a small unit just for the bedroom. It is so worth it. We struggled with a house that never cooled down. Last summer was okay, but the 3 summers prior to were terrible. So use to having overnight temperatures drop down to 14C or so, but it seems that we're lucky if it gets down to 18C some nights nowadays. Spent many a nights sleeping in a musty basement. Wife hated the idea of an AC (claims she didn't mind the heat). Nowadays...considers it to be a necessity. Wouldn't worry about the environmental concerns either. They no longer use ozone depleting gases. Besides, it's a vicious circle. Using a fan draws electricity. A warmer home would result in your fridge running longer to maintain it's temperature -- and throw even more heat into your home.
Yeah, I think I might skip the Dyson after what you guys have said-- coupled with the mixed reviews on the internet. I'll just go buy a regular fan as the heat hasn't been terrible lately.
