There are two sides to every story. Plain and simple

I think it was quite well known about his issues with La Russa. Pujols was interviewed in St. Louis and mentioned that when he tried to work with him Rasmus would often not want to hit with him or ignore what he was trying to say.

I don't think he was a huge cancer in terms of poisoning other guys as it was more of 25 guys working together and Rasmus off to himself doing his own thing.

I think he might fit in better with the Jays roster and that it isn't a big character flaw with him but a combination of being young and a poor fit. I think that he might have got a bit of a shock from being moved that forced him to change some things as well.

From media interaction and third-hand reports (which is essentially just speculation) my read on the situation is that he's aloof and seemingly defensive with people.

Whether his dad caused it or is trying to help him manage his relationships is impossible to tell, but is apparently an issue.

I agree with moon that it is essentially an age issue, as he gets older he'll get better at managing people's perception of him and it's more of a characteristic than a character flaw.

Wilner has mentioned on the Fan590 that Rasmus considered quitting baseball to go work in construction while he was with the Cards (as did Romero in AAA). Tough to draw any conclusion from that, but thought I'd pass that tidbit along.

From the Jays perspective (only), it seems like a steal to me.

A non-playoff team giving up:
A likable lefty reliever, a veteran righty (that we got back), a low-ceiling SP prospect, and two other pieces that were non-downgrades for the current roster

In return:
A young, cheap, high-ceiling MLB player at a premium position

I agree that Dotel and Rzyp were terrific for the Cards in the playoffs, and it wasn't a bad trade for them in hindsight, but the Jays got a premium asset and gave up - from the their perspective - essentially nothing.

And there goes Chavez and his time in the big leagues as a starting pitcher.

Bad pitching, bad hitting today. Losing 9-0 sucks

Yeah he's doing the same thing in Toronto. Oh wait, no, he just made mechanical adjustments to his swing in May and his numbers have taken off since. Sounds a lot like a guy who "wouldn't listen".

Why would they need to deflect heat off of a 3-time WS winner, 3rd all-time in wins and has shown that he can work with all sorts of players and teams?
And a guy who's always had several of these brutal relationships that led to the team shipping out a young player.

This is the same father that called up radio stations in TO on his own to talk about he is not meddling and doesn't crave the media.
To clear the air perhaps? Blue Jay fans haven't heard his name since then until Father's Day a couple weeks ago. Why wasn't he getting involved when Colby was having a bad April?

I mean I guess it is possible that the St. Louis media, players and management lied or it is possible that Rasmus' dad was too involved and decided to take a step back when he saw where it ended up getting his son.
Give me a quote where the players & management were pointing the finger at Rasmus' dad.
