Here's a dumb question: When Queen Elizabeth dies, will they just put Prince Charles on the $20 bill with the same designs, or completely re-do the $20 with a new theme?
Technically it should be Charles, but between the Queen lasting so long, and they way they feel about Charles since the whole Diana thing, there has been talk about making William the next King or at least face of the family.
over knowing that.
Still better than his father. There has been talk that Canada might use that time (after the death of the Queen but before the inauguration of the next monarch) to drop the monarchy, but it's been widely disagreed with, even in among circles that don't like the monarchy. I don't see it happening either. At this point it's less about the actually monarchy, but the benefits or history in belonging to the commonwealth.
Did you know that there are many countries in the world without a Canadian embassy? And in situations like that you are to travel to a British embassy and they will take care of you. There are times when being part of a large close family does benefit us in real ways.
I predict, there will be an English monarch on our bills for a while.

There are a couple problems here: for one thing, the Vimy Memorial, created to honor Canadian servicemembers who lost their lives during World War I, is not the most recognizable of national symbols. “I’ve never seen this monument, ever,” said one Vancouver participant in a Bank of Canada focus group on the bill.
For another, it also happens to be in France: the memorial rises 120 feet over the Douai Plain, near the battlefields where more than 7,000 Canadian soldiers lost their lives.
actually no, it isn't. France ceeded the land to Canada to build the memorial on, effectively making it Canadian soil. journalism really is a dying art

The Conservatives are monarchists (see putting the Royal back in Royal Canadian Air Force, for example). Also for William to be king over Charles, Charles would have to abdicate (he might).

Second that...I'd rather Canada stay on great terms with as many countries as possible.
Take a plane from Sydney to Los Angeles one time with a bunch of Aussies and you'll never be as happy to be Canadian as when you land and don't have to stand in line with 3 747/A380's full of people to have your visa checked. A flash of the passport to US customs and they'll let you in the American passport line no problem.
The kind of people who participate in focus groups (or polls) are not the kind of people you want to be representing you, or answering questions, or really breathing the same air as you.

Most Commonwealth countries dont have the Queen as the head of state. I think only Canada, Aus, New Zealand and the Bahamas? We could abolish the monarchy and still have all the benefits of the Cmmonwealth.

When the Queen croaks I can see Canada ending it's symbolic monarchy ties.

I can't wait to see the new 20$ bills all the new plastic money looks really neat and I don't see anything wrong with the pictures they've chosen so far.
