I went to a fundraiser last night for the Wilmore Society. They are mostly hunters and trappers who have been working the Wilmore Wilderness area for generations. Several of the families originally trapped/lived in Jasper but were relocated north when the park was created. They successfully lobbied the government to protect a million acre parcel of land on the north boundary of Jasper and secure the area for hunting and trapping. I do dislike them but you are right. The thing is, the reason I dislike them is it seems so bizarre to be like "the ______ (in this case lynx) is a mysterious, beautiful, wonderful animal that is beautiful to look at and actually makes me proud to be a Canadian. It is nature's wonders such as the lynx that give me an ounce of faith in this wondrous world and all of its magical creations....

SO LET'S KILL IT!!!!"

I do agree with you. I always cringe a bit when I hear about hunting/trapping predators, I just wanted to provide a perspective from the other side.

Just seems weird to me.

Yeah, killing for the sake of killing is pretty sick but man has been killing animals for food and clothing since we came to be. To my way of thinking man as a predator fits in to nature's scheme. That we should also be caretakers of this natural world goes without saying. I'm not a hunter but have no qualms about eating wild meat, it's probably more honest than buying it third hand removed from the some intensive pig farm.
