Never mind the fines, suspensions and loss of draft picks. I don't understand very well how that will all effect the team since I don't follow the sport too closely, but for a drug scandal, probably not unwarranted. What is the full story there, anyway? Was the team basically forcing players to take supplements that are banned?
I'm a bombers fan, so I've followed it pretty closely. Basically the team had a sports science program they were running. The leader running this aspect of the club, seemed to me to have the most fault in it all. From what I understand, players were basically tricked into getting these injections. Treated like guinea pigs. Told they were something else entirely other than PEDs. Since this was such an unprecedented situation, there was no reason for them to really question the club. Very sad circumstances around it all. I'm not sure how it will effect the team overall, but I suspect it will push development around the club back a few years.

Onto a happier situation...This is a good finals match. If Freemantle pulls off a victory it will be a huge upset. Geelong has been unbeatable at home.

An interesting weekend of results so far.

Spoiler tags for those PVR-ing:
Spoiler!

And unfortunately it looks like the 4th game of the weekend won't be televised. But 3/4 isn't too bad - I'll give credit to TSN for carrying that many.

the last match was an absolute classic. Players left everything out there.

The Richmond game was supposed to be on TSN. They switched it to Port Adelaide vs. Collingwood. Having watched it last night, I have to say that wasn't a bad decision. The announcers just love the female goal umpire. They name-dropped Chelsea at least a half dozen times.

I think some AFL rules would transfer well to hockey. Like "Oh, you just got scored on and reacted by punching an opponent three times? Well, how about we give him a penalty shot from the top of the crease with an empty net?" Actually, I am amazed there aren't many (if any) outright brawls in that sport.

^ I did chuckle to myself when that ball hit her in the head, popped up, and then hit her in the head again on the way down.

Good thing it was just a squibbler and not a full on kick!

So what the heck happened to Collingwood anyway? The pre-game made it sound as if Port would require a mammoth upset to win the game. Yet it felt like watching the Oilers play - The one team is supposed to be so incredibly good, yet they had no defence to speak of and were abused for it. Especially in the fourth quarter.

This was the only game I missed but there were 3 upsets this week.
The 7th, 8th and 3rd seeds won. Geelong losing at home is unheard of and I think the bigger surprise. Geelong kicked 0 goals in the 4th quarter.

As a Geelong fan that was ugly, they played horribly and it was still close, all of their top players were pretty well silent. Credit to Fremantle though, they sure found a way to shut them down.

TSN2 has both of this week's matches on their schedule now. Your cable box guide may take a day or two to be updated.

Friday, September 13th, 0330 - Geelong vs. Port Adelaide
Saturday, September 14th, 0330 - Sydney vs. Carlton

The losing teams from these matches are eliminated! The winners advance to the preliminary finals where Hawthorn and Fremantle are waiting.

The preliminary finals are starting... tonight! Well, technically tomorrow morning at 0330.

Friday, September 20th, 0330 - Hawthorn vs. Geelong (TSN2)
Saturday, September 21st, 0330 - Fremantle vs. Sydney (TSN)

The winners will book their places in the Grand Final next weekend!

I'm mildly interested in the AFL but now that the Dockers are going to their first Grand Final it's hard not to get caught up in the excitement. The city is pretty revved up at the moment and the Dockers are the talk of the town. It reminds me a little bit of Calgary in 2004. Mind you, there are a lot of Eagles supporters that will not support the Dockers under any circumstances. So, there is a bit of a wet blanket factor. Even so, if Freo wins this town will go bezerk.

Sydney sure got spanked by Fremantle on the weekend! So that sets up a Hawthorn-Fremantle Grand Final!

It looks like it will begin at 2230 on Friday night on either TSN or TSN2. I'll post an update when I find the listings properly.

Edit: It appears that TSN2 will be starting the broadcast at 2130 on Friday night, with the bounce happening at 2230. A nice "early" start for us in this time zone - I might at least try and watch the first half live and record the rest for Saturday morning.

My son will be waking me up at 7:30 whether I'm ready or not, so I might have to pack it in at half time and continue on in the morning!

I don't have any allegiances in this one, except for a friend who moved to Perth last year. So Dockers it is for me!!
