No, I usually just have a whiskey every now and then and beers with sports. Also on an unusually hot day after a day long game of roller hockey... I may induldge myself with a nice crisp wine cooler! Yeah that's right!
Drunk idiots p*ss me off, a big reason why I dont drink that much... I don't want to be a drunk idiot.

I'll say
5 isn't much... thats barely even predinking. On heavy drinking nights, thats pre-pre drinking.

I don't see why there's a difference between 10+ beers and 10+ shots. It says 5 or more drinks, not beers. It doesn't really matter if you go out and drink a case of beer, or half a 2-6 of jack, it's pretty much the same thing.
|
If your doing a shot-for-shot contest or something like that, there's a huge differece.

5 isn't much? What are you one of those low life's who pick up a 12 pack and kill it in a night?
The most i've drank at once was 3 Saddledome beers and 3 parking lot beers (Cans) during the playoffs and I was tanked. I try to enjoy what i'm consuming, I don't drink for the effects to be totally honest.
Get me a $100 bottle of Bushmills finest and it'll last me 3 or 4 months.

Party atmosphere... different circumstances. Call it what you want, I guess. You call it a low life, I call it an engineer!
(forget it if you don't know what I'm talking about. Inside joke for other gears out there. I haven't yet demolished that traditional 40 beers yet)
Floor crawls in res... Country Crusades... pub crawls... random drinking games... you know.

You get tanked off that, some people don't. Some people need more than 5 beers to start feeling it, I know a couple.

One of the Nine

Well, I guess I'm a heavy drinker. My alcohol tolerance is ridiculously high, so 6 or 8 beers is no problem on any given drinking occasion. shinguard, when camping, I can polish off a friggin 26 over the course of the night (of course, the night really is all night).
Day to day life, alcohol is something that I enjoy. A stiff rye & ginger after I declare my workday over, hits the spot nicely. Having another two is not uncommon. three doubles equals six drinks. Guess I'm a heavy drinker seeing as I do this at least two nights per week. Hell, around christmas I do this even more.
I'm curious how the survey was worded. Did they simply ask how much do you drink, then draw a line at the median & tell those above that they were in the heavy category & those below that they were light?
I would bet that if the survey appeared as it does in this thread, alot of those surveyed would have lied.
The thing about these kinds of surveys is that it gives people labels that they don't like. I asume that the logic is that if people are labelled something they don't like, they will conform to the other label that they don't mind. I say to hell with it. A median or even an average doesn't clarify the two sides. My aunt can't drink. Was she one of those surveyed? If so, she is skewing the results.
The other way to look at this survey is to ask whether MADD simply decided that the 5 in one night, 12x per year was what they deem as heavy (in other words, no median or average. Just their interpretation of heavy & light).
Do you want to know who is a problem drinker, and who just really enjoys their booze? Ask people if they can buy a bottle or a case & still have something left over. Ask people if they finish what they have before buying more. I can tell the difference between me & a good friend of mine. I drink what I want, when I want. He drinks what he has, every time.
Put me next to him, and I'm a guy who likes booze, but has a handle on it. Put me next to my g/f's jehovah witness father, and I'm a raging alcoholic with a one way ticket to hell.

What are you, one of those low-lifes that judges other people without even knowing them?
Plenty of engineers drink like snot. That doesn't make them 'low-lifes'. I see no correlation between having 5 drinks (or 20) and being a low-life. Total judgement call.

Definitely a "heavy drinker" then. Whatever that means.
This survey would mean a lot more if it was alcohol consumption by tolerance (which isn't really that measurable) or by body weight. A short and small female having 5 drinks is completely different from me having 5 drinks, or a very big (read: fat) male having 5 drinks. I don't think you can sweep across the entire population and say that more than 60 drinks in a year makes one a heavy drinker.
And furthermore...what if you have 4 drinks per night, EVERY NIGHT? Evidently you're not a "heavy drinker", but would consume far, far more alcohol than someone that has one drinking night per month and has 5 drinks.
This criteria is a total load.

Yeah, total BS. How long is a night? If i have 5 over the entire night, is that being more of an alcoholic then, say shotgunning 4 in an hour?

Geez, pretty judgemental for a guy who admits to a long sweaty day in fruit-boots and then cooling down with a nice wine-cooler.
For some reason I think spandex and headbands are also in the mix.

Judgemental? how? You honestly see nothing wrong with a guy who drinks a 12 pack in a night? If I knew someone like that i'd be getting the guy to AADAC, that's not normal.
I guess I am judgemental then, I hate drunk people with a passion. My dad was beaten as a child by an alchoholic step father (Who coincidently died in a drunk driving accident, Karma at it's best)... so forgive me if i'm not remorseful.
btw, your spandex and head bands will be returned in short order. thanks for letting me borrow them.

I am a pretty cheap drunk so 3 beers and I am done.
For those of you that came to the CPHL meet and greet, you saw what 5 Saddledome beers will did to me.
I probably get drunk enough to puke only about 4-6 times a year, but I do get tipsy every now and then.

I can't believe that 5 drinks in one sitting 12 times a year is the standard for being a heavy drinker. Five drinks is barely a buzz for me. I'm not bragging about that, but it's true.

What do you guys drink though honestly? I'm a fairly big man at 220lbs 6'3" and I consider myself drunk at 3 beers. 5 drinks and you're barely buzzed? wtf

Just beer usually.
I think I've just built up a tolerance. Although it's not the same all the time. If I'm tired and haven't eaten, then 5 beer would give me a buzz.

You won't like fotze much then, trust me.
I can barely finish a centurion, and thats on a good day. I'm a pretty small guy at approx 110-115 lbs, and my limit before the puking is 19. I guess you just... get used to it. I started out pretty cheap at about 3-4, but I guess being in university... and engineering... and living in res... and living in a res of 2500 kids between 18-20... and having 2 bars within 1 minute from where you live will do that to you.
