do you recommend I get a new passport, just to avoid any issues? I'm going on my honeymoon in September 25th to France, and I don't want any issues.
Do it now, all you have to do is fill out the forms along with a form stating how the passport was damaged (I had to get a comissioner of oaths to sign mine but I am not sure if you still have to do this). Better than getting screwed over on the honeymoon.

To be safe I would apply for a replacement

Do it... not worth the risk or the stress of worrying about it. They say 10 business days, but my wife and I got ours in the mail yesterday, which was only 8 business days (including the holiday monday). Was a piece of cake renewing at Macleod tr office.

I got through once on an ink stained passport, but was given grief coming home.

Not true. I traveled to Florida last year on a Passport that expired 5 days after I left Calgary. The airline is not responsible for returning you to your departure point. In my case, I had to go to the Canadian Consulate in Florida and get a temporary Passport so I could return back to Canada, which I did.

This happened to a coworker of mine although his wasn't as badly damaged. It wouldn't scan but it could still be manually entered and he got through security. However, I think it depends on the individual and I wouldn't have been shocked if he got turned away.

Do the safe play and get a new passport. Starting a marriage off by getting denied to go on a plane for your honeymoon would put you in the doghouse forever.

For the record, I used a glue stick on my separated cover, put it under a hot laptop and stack of books for a couple days, voila, renewed without any of the extra hassle.
