Start here to understand the true depth of the problems with the sequels:
Edit: At least get to the 7+ minute mark where the characters are discussed
The RLM guys actually released an audio track for the movie. The idea being you put it on your iPod or whatever, and listen to it in the theater. I tried to watch the movie with it, but Episode I is just way too boring.
I'm not the biggest fan of the prequals but that was garbage.
Were you born after 1990 and do you think "The Empire Strikes Back" is the most "boringest" of all?
The prequel trilogy is schlock, case closed on three films right there.
I love how Lucas and his apologists have stated that these movies were made exclusively "for children" on a post hoc basis. The movies were designed so the whole family can watch them. However murdering children (albeit off screen) and callously leaving your former friend to burn to death on a rock hardly seems like " movie made for children".
Prior to 1999, no one ever said Star Wars was made for children, because it simply was not true. The movies were accessible and good for all to watch because they were actually good films for the most part (Empire Strikes back is very good). There was no need to make excuses after the fact to cover for bad film making.
Now Lucas keeps rehashing modifying and slowly ruining the original trilogy with each passing "re-release".

Sounds like some of you guys should check this new Escapist video out...
I enjoy all and everything Star Wars, so I may be a bit biased...I watched TPM 7 times in Theatres back in 1999... I really think that in some respect it gets a bad rap, for reasons mentioned in the aforementioned video... I just checked out the 3D version again last night, there really is some sort of magic in seeing Star Wars on the big screen as opposed to in the comfort of your home...

If anything, the film has been treated very very well considering. It is truly a horrendous, dreadful bit of movie making. If I was forced to see it 7 times I think I would kill myself.

Nope, old enough to have caught eps 5 & 6 in theaters. And Empire is by far my fave. I don't disagree that Lucas has tainted the perceived back story left to our imaginations for 15 something years, but it was his story to tell and that is how he decided to tell it. If you're bitter enough to think that the whole story is now garbage that is your view and you are entitled to it.
EU does get worse as it goes along, the Jedi Academy series which leads to the Rise of Daala reduces the Empire to clown proportions, and most of the other EU books are supervillian superweapon stupidity to the max.
The best books of the EU are the old republic books, the Bane series, and the books that take place during the rise of Palpatine. The Dark Lord trilogy which chronical the fall and rise of Vader over three books including Revenge of the Sith still stand as the best written series of the EU with the Bane books as a close second.
However the recent Dath Plageous book that was just released was excellent.
I have a lot of trouble reading the Yuuzghan (sp) and Legacy of the Force series.
I still think the X-Wing series is a fun read. Never goes overboard with the superweapons (unless you classify a super star destroyer as one) and has good character development.

I still think the original story is fine, I just hate how Lucas keeps revising it. Yes, it was " his" story to tell, bbut he was so many years removed from filmmaking that he did a terrible job of story telling in his last 3 attempts.
the prequel trilogy does not taint my enjoyment of viewing the originals; it is the constant #######izing of the originals that is irksome.

If you put a turd on a giant screen it doesn't change the fact that its a turd.
Episodes 1-3 were just terrible, terrible films. Lucas has lost his mind with all the changes and re-hashes to the originals, re-releasing each film in every new format with further changes, and people are buying into a marketing money machine with the Star Wars branding nowadays. They pay for the brand now, not quality. Any reputation Star Wars had about being good/fun/enjoyable movies is a relic of the past.
I know its hard to admit. I didn't want to admit Phantom Menace was so utterly horrible when I saw it, but I had no choice. The truth cannot be hidden.

Compared to 4-6, 1-3 are pretty crappy, but I really would enjoy the podracing and Darth Maul battle on the big screen. Taking the kids this week. Will be hard to stomach Anakin's crappy dialogue though, 'Are you an angel?' 'let's do a spin, that's a good trick!"
There's a whole series of them per movie where he breaks down just how bad they are. The reviews are frankly much much more entertaining than the actual movies.
Eventually Lucas will tinker with the Star Wars films to the point where they are completely different movies. All in the name of, "that's how I originally intended them to be."
whats sad is that star wars knights of the old republic, the RPG game, was far better a story than any of the prequels.
The less George Lucas is involved in plots and themes the better. I kind of wish his ultimate greed for money would win over his greed for meddling in the franchise and he would just sell his rights to it.
I wanted to watch the entire Star Wars saga with my kid. Do you think we should start from Ep. 1 to 6 or in the theatrical order, E 4 to 6 and then Ep. 1 to 3?
