Used to have one a day (usually monster or xyience I I didn't want sugar) in university.

Now that I am an actual adult, I don't drink them.

This stuff is pretty good considering it's non carbonated and has little sugar it.

I've tried energy drinks for when I'm working night shift but none have ever done anything for me, and those five hour energy shots actually have the opposite effect on me. Put me to sleep.

I'll knock back a RedBull for long road trips when I'm driving, keeps me up without the coffee induced bathroom breaks.

In terms of just pure "taste" I find the Beaver Buzz Green Tea to be the best flavour that I've tried. But like I said, I typically just grab a RedBull for highway drives, otherwise I stick to coffee.

I really like the blue Rockstar, whatever flavor it is. Nothing like having green piss for a few hours.

I used to dig the purple Beaver Buzz, but it seems like it got discontinued. I bought a flat from an asian grocer in Killarney when I found it again - but don't really like any of them now.

Honest question.
I don't know, but I would assume that coffee is just that little bit better for you.

I've stopped drinking coffee too, so that's not just me legitimizing my own habit.

i need to preface my post with this - i don't drink coffee/tea, rarely drink pop with caffeine and i very rarely drink energy drinks....

some of the guys i play hockey with slam back an energy drink right before going on the ice. i was feeling sorta sluggish the one evening so i figured i'd try that. well - i had the worst game of my life!! being a goal tender it's sort of important to stay focused. the stinking drink wired me so much that i was all fidgety in goal, couldn't concentrate and just played like crap.

it might be a little different if you're skating around, but i know that i will never do that again. not only that, but like northendzone mentioned.... how do you fall asleep later?? i'm always super wired after a game and can't usually fall asleep for at least 3 hours after i'm off the ice.

on the rare occasion that i do drink an energy drink i usually have the 'green monster' one. these are usually only consumed around christmas when work is insanely busy and i'm pulling all-nighters to ensure that orders get done

B's no boost in energy drinks

http://articles.latimes.com/2008/jul...h/he-skeptic14

The bottom line: The Healthy Skeptic isn't part of the Red Bull generation, but he did down 2 ounces of 5-Hour Energy right before his traditional afternoon slump. It turns out that a megadose of vitamin B-12 can go down pretty smoothly, if you don't mind the taste of Fresca gone flat. The caffeine -- about as much as in a cup of coffee -- seemed to kick in right away. But if the B vitamins added anything to the caffeine buzz, the effects were too subtle to notice. Energy, mood, thinking skills -- all were unfortunately ordinary and familiar.

Contrary to what ads would have us believe, B vitamins aren't little packets of energy, says Hope Barkoukis, an associate professor of nutrition at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland and chairwoman of Sports, Cardiovascular and Wellness Nutritionists, a practice group of the American Dietetic Assn. "It's brilliant marketing," she says, "but it doesn't have any basis."

It's true that the vitamins help unlock the energy in foods, Barkoukis says, but weary office workers can't expect to get a jolt from extra B vitamins in any form. The reason, she says, is simple: Just about everyone in America already gets all of the B vitamins they could possibly need in their diets.

Do B Vitamins Give You Energy?

http://nutritiondiva.quickanddirtyti...ou-energy.aspx

Seeing that something contains 1200% of the recommended intake of a nutrient certainly makes it sound awfully potent. But if you feel a burst of energy after drinking one of these drinks, it’s very unlikely that it’s due to the B vitamins. More likely, you’re feeling the effects of sugar, caffeine, or another herbal stimulant like guarana…no doubt helped along by a healthy dose of placebo effect.

http://healthpsych.psy.vanderbilt.ed...HourEnergy.htm

5-Hour Energy claims to provide hours of alertness, focus, and increased energy as a result of a unique combination of vitamins and amino acids. However, the most recent research on the efficacy of these ingredients as supplements to a healthy diet is inconclusive. 5-Hour Energy also claims that it is “good for you”, especially when compared to other drinks with high contents of caffeine and sugar. Although drinking the recommended dose of 5-Hour Energy probably will not harm you, it is doubtful that it would have positive healthful effects. Other energy drinks may be worse for you and dangerous, but they also may be more effective for their suggested purpose of increased, rapid energy as a result of high levels of sugar and caffeine. After trying 5-Hour Energy, I believe that a better recommendation for a long-lasting energy fix would be a peanut butter sandwich and a small glass of orange juice. With high levels of protein and carbohydrates, this snack could effectively address the claims of the 5-Hour Energy product in a natural way without having to worry about the inclusion of uncertain quantities of caffeine and other potentially harmful substances.

The only people I've ever heard talk about Vitamin B boosts are health nuts.

I was always under the impression that the Taurine (the additive that originally prevented US Red Bull from being sold in Canada), gurana, Niacin and Caffeine were the "energy drink" specific ingredients.

B-vitamins just flush through your system if you have too much. It is important to get enough, but it won't make a difference in an energy drink.

Go take vitamin B supplements, and check out the colour of your urine when you pee after that. It'll be bright yellow.

not saying any of you because I don't know you
but most of the people I do know on a personal level that drink Energy drinks for whatever reason are lethargic.

I have maybe 1 a week but i could drink the original Rockstars all day. They make me feel antsy though. I also enjoy the grape 5hr energy. Drank 2 of those in 5hr energys on a road trip to the shuswap and i was just flying.

Used to drink Rockstar. Now drink Monster. Bit sweeter, but accordingly, less acidic, I find. Also agree with the cigarette comment. I mean, check it out, we even all have our own "brand".

I love the sugar free 5 hour extra strength shots even though they taste like rotten oranges, those things actually work for me unlike Amp,Rockstar etc.
