peter12 must be like a real-life version of Frasier or something. Matches the balding thing too.
I just hope he's not actually some young d#####-f** who fancies himself a proper dapper gentleman but gets it all wrong.

Nah, I don't go for that faggy garbage. Look at him. Jeans with a waistcoat. Definitely more along the lines of Frasier.
Just to be clear. I do not have a pair of Edward Greens, and barring some fateful intervention will probably never be able to afford a pair.

Yeah, you say 4000 wears for 1000 bucks is a pretty good deal but that's like putting $4 in a jar every time I put on my shoes to go outside. I don't have the look to go with these kinds of shoes. Maybe when I am older.

Flannel wool trousers feel like sweat pants, but are actually real grown-up pants.

Yeah, for sure. You aren't going to be rocking $1000 shoes with a pair of jeans from the Gap, and I totally realize that this sort of expenditure is far beyond the experience of probably 99% of people (although, obviously, almost anyone could afford them if they accepted the opportunity costs of getting nice shoes over say a nice television). You know what I mean? In my world, I would take the $1000 shoes over that television any day of the week. That's just me though. And I can't afford the TV or the shoes now anyway, so it doesn't matter.

Totally. I was going to get $1000 shoes but then I remembered that I'm not a huge waste of a human being and don't bother with garbage like that. Good to have you back though. Can you find narbez and get us an update on getting a good wet shave please?

Hey, like the man said. He doesn't have $1000 shoes. Only $325 ones.

I bought a pair of Doc Martens in 1999, and they're still in good shape. The leather is beat up and the soles worn down, but I wear 'em often.
Funny thing is, I can't find them in my size anymore and the company has been unresponsive to my queries. I'd get another pair or two if I could find them. Cost me about $175, if I recall correctly.

The company went through some kind of reorganization so some of the shoes (even across the same style) are still made in England, and some are made in the usual cheap labor hotspots. They should be exactly the same but I find the Brit models fit a bit better.
I often buy them on eBay and can get them for under 50 bucks with very little wear.. The older ones often fetch more money. I also have a pair of vegans (Docs were pretty much the only leather shoes I bought). They took a bit longer to break in it seems but i'll buy them again.
What size do you take? I have to wear thick socks with mine. They are a bit wide and my heels are narrow. I wish they had a half size.
I wear them every day to work as they last so much longer than the postal regulation shoes/sneakers.
I have a couple pairs of boots with completely wrecked uppers. They're great for canoeing in the swamp where you might have to get out and step in God knows what. The average sneaker would be sucked off my foot.

but yet you seem to have a very strong opinion on the quality of these shoes....

I have 5 pairs of AEs, and they are amazing shoes, but I know that a pair of Edward Greens or John Lobbs could be worn 100 times a year for 40 years. 4000 wears for 1000 bucks is a pretty good deal.

isn't this thread about stuff that exceeded your expectations? not stuff that will likely exceed your expectations because it is more expensive than other stuff......

My favourite pair of boots, these Alden Indys, still look amazing 2 years, and probably 150 wears after I bought them.
Any suiting by Samuelsohn (Canadian) also holds up extremely well at the price.
Flame away.

I don't think you need to spend $300 on shoes to have them hold up for over a year. I have a pair of dress shoes that I've owned for nearly 5 years now that are still in good shape. I think I got them for around $150-$200. They're also the comfiest shoes I own. That being said, they may have been $300 shoes that were on sale. Still, it's not like it's hard to bargain hunt for good quality clothing. The average person isn't going to know/care if you're wearing the 2012 model or the 2011.

About 6 years ago, I bought a 42" Alux TV from Visions. It isn't fancy at all, isn't true HD, but man, that TV just keeps going. Want to get an HD TV, but just can't spend the money when this cheap TV is still going strong!

Parents bought me a sony ghetto blaster when I was 15. I'm in my 30s now, and that thing still works perfectly. The tape deck works, the CD works. Nothing is broken. The thing has also suffered a ton of abuse. I've taken it fishing, camping, road trips...it's been thrown around, dropped from a few feet up, water splashed on it, and everything still works.
Sony used to make good products.
